A Turkish SME offers Multifrequency Electrical Impedance Imaging System
Summary:
The multifrequency electrical impedance imaging system technology is originated by Turkey from Turkish SME. The field of activity is medical. This technology focuses on biological tissues and is available to be licensed to a potential partner. Within this technology, partners can add technical advantages to the technology through research cooperation, and/or to partners that can manufacture and/or commercialize the medical imaging device.
Description:
The company is offering this technology to partners that can add technical advantages to the technology through research cooperation, and/or to partners that can manufacture and/or commercialize the medical imaging device. The technology is also available to be licensed to a potential partner.

The type of partner of this invention can be a research organization and/or a manufacturing company specialized or experienced in medical imaging devices and sensors. Manufacturing agreement is sought since the SME lacks mass production capabilities. A potential partner should have the know-how and the facilities to manufacture the imaging device. The SME seeks a partner that will be able to commercialize the product through license agreement. Through a commercial agreement with technical assistance, the company expects from a potential partner to access clients and provide technical assistance about the imaging device.

In this invention, an approach is proposed to image the electrical impedance (conductivity and permittivity) properties of biological tissues. This approach is based on electrical current induction using ultrasound together with an applied static magnetic field. Acoustic vibrations are generated via piezoelectric transducers located on the surface of a biological body. A linear phased array piezoelectric transducer is used to form pressure distribution in human body/tissue. In the existence of a static magnetic field, the resultant (velocity) current density is sensed by a receiver coil encircling the tissue or placed near the tissue and used for reconstructing the conductivity and permittivity distribution.

The invention is related to electrical impedance imaging. The aims of this invention are obtaining multi-frequency images of conductivity and permittivity distributions of human body and setting a high-resolution imaging system coupling static magnetic field and ultrasound. By this method, a non-invasive system operating within safety limits can be obtained for patients.

In this method, with a uniform static magnetic field the ultrasonic transducer (linear phased array) placed on the human body/organ is excited. A pressure wave is generated inside the human body/organ and velocity current density is induced due to pressure and static magnetic field. The resultant magnetic fields of the induced current are measures by the encircling receiver coils.
Advantages and Innovations:
The advantages and differences of the proposed method, as compared to the other tomography methods can be listed as:

1) no surface electrodes are used to inject current in the conducting body,
2) no coils are used to induce current in the conducting body,
3) to induce currents in a conducting body only an ultrasonic transducer and static magnetic field are required,
4) to measure the resultant current density an encircling coil is used yielding contactless measurements,
5) electronically steering and focusing properties of transducer (linear phased array) give wide range of area to be scanned in a short time,
6) there are different types of ultrasonic transducer used in medical applications, thus the type of ultrasonic transducer can be chosen according to the size of subject to be imaged.
