Affordable, patented, personal refuelling appliance for cars and vans fuelled by natural gas
A Midlands based SME has developed an innovative gas refuelling appliance for vehicles allowing consumers to refill their NGV (Natural Gas Vehicles) from home. This refuelling appliance has been developed for the existing limited infrastructure that exists in most countries, therefore enabling increased uptake of NGVs. Partners for commercial agreements with technical assistance and commercial distribution partners are now being sought in key European markets to launch this innovative product.
Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) are an established technology globally, offering over 20% reduction in greenhouse gases, no particulates and up to 60% fuel cost savings. However, uptake of natural gas as a light vehicle fuel in Europe is heavily restricted by rate of roll out of a public fuelling infrastructure

The SME has spent many years developing and testing the personal refuelling appliance the company is now entering the commercialisation phase.

The appliance is similar in size to a small fridge and has been designed to be easy to install and use within a domestic environment. The unit is slow fill in that it takes a number of hours to fill the on vehicle storage. A fill will typically allow journeys of 350km to be undertaken.

In the commercial market, the appliances can be used with on site storage to form a mini fast fill system. In this case, the units are used to fill the on- site storage whilst the fleet of vehicles are on the road and when they return to base the natural gas is transfilled into the vehicle storage in matter of minutes. This system is ideal for a small fleet of city delivery vehicles

It is anticipated that the partner will either be involved in installing and servicing natural gas appliances or involved in the natural gas vehicle market. Training and technical back up will be provided by the company but the distributor will be expected to promote and sell the units and liaise closely with natural gas supply companies and car suppliers in the target market.

The partner will also be able to earn significant repeat revenues from installing the appliance, providing customer support and selling spare parts.

With many millions of premises supplied by natural gas the potential market is very large and the appliance has the potential to be a mass market product.
Advantages and Innovations:
The product is the natural gas equivalent of an electric charging post and allows customers to enjoy the benefits of using natural gas (up to 60% fuel cost saving, lower CO2 footprint, clean vehicle emissions) without waiting for costly public fast fill CNG refuelling stations to be built in their area.

The product is based on a novel, 3 stage, completely oil free compressor which has been designed specifically for the job and which has very low maintenance costs.

The appliance has been lifetime tested and the cost is such that fuel cost savings allow paybacks of below 2 years to be achieved.

The unit is easy to install (uses a domestic gas and electricity supply), is easy to use, is CE marked and built to high safety standards.

The output of the unit is 2.3 times that of the only competitor and allows 2/3 cars each travelling 15,000km/annum to be refuelled. The unit is also suitable for small businesses running small fleets of vehicles.

Additional revenue streams for a distributor include installation revenue, customer support and spare parts.

The appliance has the potential to be a mass market product.
