El grafito termoexpandido se emplea en metalurgia, aglomeración, ingeniería mecánica para resistencia térmica, industria petroquímica, etc. Gracias a sus propiedades únicas, el grafito se utiliza como absorbente eficaz de sustancias orgánicas, como material para la fabricación de juntas en sistemas de transporte de gas, en la industria de automoción o en los sectores de hidrógeno y energía nuclear. El instituto ha desarrollado tecnologías de pretratamiento de grafito termoexpandido para obtener una nanocapa absorbente con aplicación en superficies contaminadas. Se buscan compañías en estos sectores con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia.

Description:
Research institute is one of the Ukrainian leading centers of advanced scientific and engineering services. During its almost 60-year history, the Institute carried out significant researches and developments that were implemented in various industries.

At present time the main fields of Institute researches are: basic fundamentals development for increasing of natural gas and alternative heat carriers effectiveness use as basis for new energy- and resource saving technologies creation; research in applied combustion theory, thermodynamic, interface heat- and mass exchange and new heat- and technological processes and equipment development on this basis; research in environment protection for science- and technology fundamentals creation of atmosphere air protection from pollution, thermal neutralization of solid domestic waste and specially dangerous materials and wastes.

Equipment for the production of thermo-expanded graphite of high-quality is one of the latest developments of the research Institute. The technology and corresponding technological equipment for the high-quality energy-efficient production of thermo-expanded graphite (TEG) have been developed and tested. Due to its unique properties, it can be used as an effective absorber of organic substances, material for the manufacture of gaskets in the gas transportation system, automobile industry, and so on. TEG is also a promising material for hydrogen and nuclear energy.

Several technologies of TPG pre-treatment have been developed in order to obtain a nanosheet sorbent (NSS) for its application on a contaminated surface, and for the collection of saturated NSCS and thermochemical regeneration for its repeated use. In this case, the absorbed substance can be removed from the saturated sorbent and used for its intended purpose after appropriate purification, and the spent sorbent may be thermochemically regenerated for further use. It positively reflects its cost and increases its competitiveness compared to its counterparts.

Technical characteristics of the industrial plant for the production of TPP and the characteristics of the TPG itself:
· Natural gas consumption - 2 m3/h.;
· Operating temperature of the process - 900 °¿;
· Productivity - 35 kg/h. TEG;
· Installation - continuous action;
· Bulk density of TEG - 3... 5 g/dm3;
· Acidity of TPG - 6,5 ... 7 pH;
· The absorption capacity of the TPG is 60 ... 80 g/g.
Ukrainian Institute are looking for enterprises and manufactures of any type who are looking to use in their work graphene and structures on its basis. The expected type of partnership is the license agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
The equipment is the implementation of a new technology for the generation of thermo-expanded graphite of high quality, which is manifested through its low density (up to 3 g/dm3) and minimized residuals of sulfuric acid (acidifying the aqueous extract 6.5-7 pH). This technology allows to significantly decrease reduce mass and size of equipment (from small size plant to room-size manufacture).
