El equipo se conecta al sistema circulatorio del paciente mediante shunt arteriovenoso o venovenoso en 20 minutos. El equipo consta de un biorreactor con la medicación para el hígado y sistemas de bombeo de sangre para termorregulación y oxigenación y para garantizar la seguridad del proceso. A Russian company from Chelyabinsk, specialized in R&D for medicine, developed a technology for extracorporeal blood purification that can be used in cases of acute and chronic liver diseases and replaces the lost function of affected organs through detoxification and recovery of metabolism function. The company looks for partners for manufacturing and/or research cooperation.
Description:
The main method for treating serious liver lesions is the liver transplantation. However, the cost of the surgery intervention is very high, and donor organs are always lacked. Therefore, only 10% of those who needs liver transplantation receive the adequate surgical care. Hence, there is an enormous need for the equipment that performs the artificial liver functions.
The Russian company developed a new method and equipment to treat the diseases associated with serious liver lesions accompanied with progression of hepatic insufficiency (as a result of hepatitis, cirrhosis, etc.), acute poisoning and endogenous intoxication of different nature, care of the patients before and after the liver transplantation surgery.
The technology allows the connecting of the equipment with circulatory system of the patient using the arteriovenous or venovenous shunt within 20 minutes. To operate the equipment, 2 people are needed - a doctor and a nurse. The method is based on the interaction of the medication made of porcine liver with the blood of the patient through a semipermeable membrane. The equipment consists of a bioreactor with liver medication, and the systems for blood pumping tubing line, for thermoregulation, for oxygenation and for ensuring the procedure safety. The medication is made by means of liver desiccation with addition of some chemical components. The medication's shelf life under low temperature condition is not less than 1 year.
The company developed a prototype of the apparatus operating as the artificial liver. In order to study the efficiency of albuminous dialysis in hepatic insufficiency treatment, a sample batch of 15 people with toxic hepatitis of various aetiologies was examined. The study demonstrated a high efficiency of the method and the equipment itself, manifested in the reduction of biochemical markers of cytolysis, cholestasis and the level of endogenous intoxication of all patients.
Advantages and Innovations:
The technology involves application of a medication made on the basis of porcine liver. The method of its production is know-how of company. In contrast with existed analogues, the equipment has a long shelf life (up to 1 year), economic mode of the production and ecological compatibility. The storage does not require using hormones and antibiotics.
The technology also has the following advantages and features:
- it allows replacing not only detoxifying, but also metabolic functions of the liver;
- it provides a quick performing of operations, which allows using it in case of mass destructions, natural disasters, terrorist acts, etc;
- it gives the flexibility to change the operation mode in accordance with a current task;
- it allows combining the effect of biodialisate with all known types of dialysis, ultrafiltration, hemofiltration and hemosorption.
