Investigadores ucranianos han desarrollado un esterilizador supercavitacional libre de reactivos para descontaminación de bacterias, huevos de helminto y hongos en aguas residuales. El aparato ha sido implementado como sección de trabajo de una tubería, bomba de circulación y circuito de recirculación. El efecto biológico de la supercavitación se basa en la destrucción mecánica de la estructura celular de bacterias como resultado del impacto del colapso de las burbujas de cavitación que crean una presión de hasta 1000 atm en microvolúmenes, así como por medio de la ruptura celular bajo la acción de una emisión abrupta de gases disueltos. Los investigadores buscan socios con el fin de formar un consorcio para llevar a cabo actividades de investigación y lanzar la tecnología al mercado. Otra posible colaboración es la venta de la licencia.

Description:
The supercavitational sterilizer is meant for reagentless decontamination of sewage (after biological purification constructions) before disposal to a water body and for decontamination of other waters contaminated with bacteria, helminth eggs and fungi.
The biological effect of supercavitation is based on mechanical destruction of cell structure of bacteria as a result of impact of collapsing cavitation bubbles creating pressure up to 1000 atm in microvolumes, as well as by means of rupture of cells under the action of abrupt emission of dissolved gases.
The apparatus is manufactured as a working section of a pipeline, a circulation pump and a re-circulating circuit.
The efficiency of decontamination depends on the durability of processing, species of microorganisms, pressure before the cavitator and on the cavitator´s construction.
At single processing, a degree of decontamination of 86% for the pressure before the cavitator of 0.3 MPa was achieved.

The contamination of sewage was reduced to 105 to 103 microorganisms per ml.
In the process of sterilization of cultural liquid at a semi-industrial plant with output of 5-7 m3/hour, the achieved sterilization effect was 99%.
A degree of dehelmintization at contaminated by helminth eggs sewage procession reaches 50-80% without water heating.
A combination of processing by cavitation and thermal pasteurization is especially effective.
There is an experience of practical implementation of the development.


Current and Potential Domain of Application: Lower and medium power sewage purifying systems (up to 10 m3/hour).
