Details

Tittle:
UK social enterprise focused on interactive teaching strategies/tools for the primary education sector seeks educational technology developers/educational institutes to explore/support research and new digital product development.
Summary:
A UK social enterprise focused on interactive teaching strategies/tools for the primary education sector has developed interactive comprehension tools/resources that support teachers/parents in helping young children learn. They seek education technology developers/educational institutes to support further development and the transition of the physical interaction tools to a digital platform. Co-operation is envisaged on a research co-operation or joint venture agreement basis.
Description:
The UK based pioneering social enterprise was set up to fill an existing gap in primary provision for teaching the key reading and collaborative problem-solving strategies that are essential life-skills for the 21st Century. Delivering services/resources to schools they have developed interactive comprehension tools/resources to provide teachers/parents with the essential meta-learning steps that help young children to independently and collaboratively apply inference, comprehension skills and questioning techniques to self-monitor their reading and understanding across the curriculum. In addition, they are also focused on and have developed a programme of activities/support centred around transferable thinking that provides the foundation for developing early STEM skills (science, technology, engineering and maths), the aim being to increase children´s understanding of concepts in STEM subjects and help them to problem-solve and conduct their own research in collaborative, self-managing teams.

The enterprise´s objectives are two-fold:

· they seek to further develop their products transitioning them from physical interaction tools to a digital platform. As such are seeking educational technology partners/developers interested in co-developing apps for mobile devices that can be rolled out commercially in the education sector.

· connect with partners from educational institutes currently involved with or willing to fund /evaluate the impact of their transferable thinking programme as a foundation for developing early STEM skills. In this regard the enterprise has evidence from prior funded research which demonstrates how effectively the collaborative enquiry and the thinking strategies used in their transferable thinking programme increased children´s understanding of concepts in a range of subjects and helped them to independently problem-solve.

Co-operation is sought on either a research co-operation or joint venture agreement basis. It is intended that each party will be self financed; the social enterprise will make available their intellectual property (core content/research). Deadline for expressions of interest is 30 September 2016.
Advantages and Innovations:
The current interactive comprehension tools/resources offer a complete teaching resource that systematically helps individuals teach reading comprehension skills the reciprocal way from the early years upwards. Children learn progressive skills that show them how to question, find meaning for themselves and become enthusiastic readers with a passion for group enquiry.

These explicit teaching and learning steps were previously missing from the UK National Literacy Strategy guidelines and unavailable as teaching materials to schools until the tools/resources were developed by the enterprise. The tools and resource have been developed by the enterprise and have grown organically out of 10 years of research, school trials and evaluations by experts in the literacy field.
