A Greek technological SME has developed a technology for the manufacturing of catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters for all vehicle designs and models.
A catalytic converter is an emissions control device that converts toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas to less toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction (oxidation or reduction). Catalytic converters are used with internal combustion engines fueled by either petrol (gasoline) or diesel—including lean-burn engines as well as kerosene heaters and stoves.
Catalytic converters have proven to be reliable and effective in reducing noxious tailpipe emissions. However, they also have some shortcomings in use, and also adverse environmental impacts in production: Catalytic converter production requires precious metals, such as palladium or platinum.
The proposed technology is related to the regeneration of catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters and the recycling of precious metals and rare earths included in catalysts, permanent magnets and electronic systems of the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV). The novelties introduced are concerning the substitution methodology of precious metal molecules by transition metals nanoparticles in catalytic washcoat.

The company has a fifteen year experience manufacturing/regenerating/recycling of catalytic converters. Its main activities are:
- Manufacturing of catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters for passenger cars.
- Manufacturing of catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters and selective catalytic reduction for heavy duty applications (off-road/trucks/buses).
- Regeneration of diesel particulate filters and selective reduction catalysts.

Nowadays, the company possesses a cost-effective logistics optimized collection network for spent catalytic converters covering the whole Greek territory, islands included. For the purposes of pre-processing the automotive spent catalytic converters, after their storing and sorting (ceramic - metallic), the company acquired a de-canning facility with capability of treating 40.000 converters per year.
The Direct-fit catalytic converters use either ceramic honeycomb or high flow metallic substrate and are available with 2 years or 80.000 warranty and EU homologation. The diesel particulate filters incorporate precious metals in order to have catalytic activity and their honeycomb is either conventional cordierite or novel silicon carbide.
The company manufactures and regenerates catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters for heavy duty mobile applications (off road construction machines and trucks/buses). Except from catalytic converters and particulate filters, the company´s commercial portfolio includes selective catalytic reduction devices for reduction emission for Euro VI heavy duty applications (more than 500bhp).
