Description:
A German SME has developed a fire protection additive for wood and cellulose insulation materials. Wood and cellulose insulation materials are usually equipped with fire-retardant additives that protect the material from rapid burning. Until now, the problem of these materials´ tendency to smoulder, which limits their use as a building material, has remained unsolved. With the newly developed fire protection additive, the problem of smouldering and glowing has been solved. This opens new applications and markets for wood and cellulose fiber insulation materials (e.g. multi-storey buildings).
Depending on the requirements in the production of the insulating materials, the fire protection additive can be mixed into the insulating materials as a water-soluble or water-insoluble powder. A fire behaviour test according to EN 16733 has been passsed. The inventor seeks investors as well as manufacturers of wood fibre or cellulose fibre insulation materials as licensees or financial partners.
Advantages and Innovations:
Conventional fire retardant additives were able to prevent the material from rapid burning but were not able to prevent smouldering and glowing after the material was exposed to a flame source.

When adding the new fire protection additive wood fibre insulation boards and cellulose insulation do not burn and glow anymore. This opens new applications and markets e.g. in multi-storey buildings.
