Flexibility analysis of piping lines with added value for systems operating under high temperature and/or vibration
Summary:
A French engineering company specialized in acoustic, pulsation and vibration studies, carries out numerical studies for industrial fields (Petrochemical, Oil -Y- Gas, etc.) allowing to improve the design of equipment (compressors, pumps, etc.) and associated piping systems to guarantee their mechanical and vibration integrity or to limit the noise emitted; also perform troubleshooting on-site to solve specific vibration and acoustic issues. Technical cooperation is sought with industrial firms.
Description:
The company offers flexibility analysis for piping lines subject to the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) or to severe constraints like as high temperature of exhaust system and/or vibration excitations of rotative equipment (compressor, pump...), or induced by the flow.

Using a proven flexibility analysis software they carry-out standard flexibility analysis aiming to calculate the reaction forces and the stresses resulting from the effects of pipe weight, internal/external pressure, temperature gradient, and occasional loads (valve depressurizing in the atmosphere, seismic, wind...).

The analysis includes not only main pipes, pipe supports and cylindrical pressure vessels, but also complex metal structures (Chassis, pipe rack, etc.) and buried piping systems if necessary.

For specifically high temperature system the company has been developed a step by step design approach for designing the flexible joints, which is a key point in the exhaust systems.

For the process piping lines subject to either rotative equipment vibration excitations or flow induced vibrations the company is relying on a 40-years experience in site trouble shooting and machine and piping system modelling. The company has developed a proprietary software, for modelling the pulsation effect of reciprocating compressors vibrations as per API (American Petroleum Institute) 618 international standard, for carrying-out the vibration coincidence analysis of rotary screw and roots machines, and for undertaking AIV (Acoustic-Induced Vibration) -Y- FIV (Flow Induced Vibration) analysis as per Energy Institute´s Guideline for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced fatigue Failure in Process Pipework.

The flexibility analysis combined, or not, with either its high temperature or vibrating system approaches allows from among other a proper design of the piping supports, a proper selection of the expansion joints and of the spring hangers.

The flexibility analysis can be proposed worldwide for Petroleum, Gas, Chemical, Vapour, Power, and any kind of industries with pressurised piping, applying principally the international ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) B31 codes or the European EN 13480-3 code.

The French company is looking for industrial partners wishing to improve the vibration resistance of their installations. The cooperation could be put in place under technical cooperation agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
In general, the flexibility study of a piping system makes it possible to calculate the forces and stresses resulting from the effects of gravity, internal and external pressures, temperature variations and flow-induced forces.

In addition to the usual calculations, the French company can also provide:
· Verification of bolted flange assemblies using the equivalent pressure method
· Wind and snow loads studies
· Study of dynamic vibration behaviour
· Seismic studies

For this type of calculation, the French company uses Bentley AutoPIPE® Advanced or Intergraph CAESAR II® softwares.
