Details

Tittle:
Training for nurses in the introduction of catheters using virtual reality technology.
Summary:
A Spanish initiative of specialised developers and nurses offers a virtual reality technology with controllers emulating the hands of the nurse to train in the insertion of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). They are looking for partners, with no preferred location, to establish commercial agreements with technical assistance and technical and research cooperation agreements.
Description:
This training method using virtual reality for nurses is being developed in Madrid, by a team of specialised developers and nurses currently working in the fields of virtual reality and nursing in reputed hospitals.
The technology used is virtual reality with controllers emulating the hands of the nurse to train. This technology allows for the simulation of a safe environment consisting of a hospital room, patient, ultrasound equipment and the catheter package as well as any auxiliary tools required, all made of 3D customized models.
It was noticed a lack of expertise in the nursing personnel in different types of nursing techniques, but in particular in the inversion of catheters. This lack of expertise can put health of delicate patients in danger.
This proposed system intend to increase the general knowledge of the professionals that can be trained both at an educational stage (schools, universities...) as well as in the hospitals.

They are looking for healthcare institutions, training institutions, healthcare private businesses in the field of catheters and ultrasound machines to establish commercial agreements with technical assistance and technical and research cooperation agreements.
Advantages and Innovations:
· A safe environment in which to practice for as long as needed by the nurse without the need of any physical material or teacher. It can be used anytime, anywhere. An evaluation can be performed and certified by the system.
· Reduction of the costs associated with physical simulation environments;
· A realistic environment and hand-manipulation mechanics;
· A guided gamified system that allows for different types of practice;
Stage of Development:
