El sistema se basa en LED de nanocristales de silicio y también puede aplicarse en aparatos pequeños, como smartphones. La configuración sencilla para la extracción de datos y la desviación insignificante medida desde las bases de datos sin procesamiento posterior de los datos básicos son las principales ventajas del generador. Se buscan socios industriales con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia.

Two research centres settled in the North of Italy have developed and patented a small and cheap digital system, able to encrypt inward and outward data from all kinds of apparatuses.
The system is based on silicon nano crystals Light Emitting Diodes, and can be applied also to small apparatuses, like smartphones. The research centres are searching for an industrial partner in order to sign a licence agreement.
Description:
The importance of always more security in the IoT (Internet of Things) and in the man-machine interaction and communication, has led the researchers to develop a new digital system to generate cryptographics codes difficult to be decoded.
The research centres have invented and patented a quantum random number generator, able to encrypt inward and outward data from all kinds of apparates. The physical quantum random number generator (QRNG) is based on silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs) LEDs, exploited as a source of randomness. It is very small and compact and can be applied also to small apparates, like smartphones. The generator has very negligible bias, simple setup and exploit the natural integration of quantum photonics and electronics. In this way, using the same successful paradigm of microelectronics, it is possible to obtain integrated quantum photonic circuits that are inexpensive and can be applied to a great variety of fields from quantum informatics to safe communications and services.
From a technical point of view, with the simulation of a dead time of 1s and 500ns, the bit sequences pass all the statistical tests in NIST test suite. The highest bit-rate achieved via this QRNG is 0.6Mbps which is relatively low compared to existing physical RNGs.
Through the utilization of light instead of dark noise it is able to stimulate events in the SPAD and to obtain the absence of a deterministic processing to the raw data which is extremely remarkable in producing high quality random numbers and can compensate for the low bit-rate. As an additional point, it should be mentioned that higher bit-rates are expected by the parallelization of the system.
The research centres are searching for an industrial partner in order to sign a licence agreement. The partner should be a company working in the field of IT technologies interested in develop and market the quantum random number generator.
Advantages and Innovations:
The relatively simple setup for data extraction, a negligible bias measured from the datasets and applying no post-processing operations to the raw data are the main advantages of this quantum random number generator.
