Wind power plant generator with excitation from permanent magnets
Summary:
An institute from Latvia involved in electrical industry, in particular - electric generators, has developed a new technology of wind power plant generator with excitation from permanent magnets in order to reduce the values of generator´s start-up torque. Technology can be applied to industries with interest in wind generators. Institute is looking for commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Description:
An institute from Latvia involved in electrical industry has developed new kind of wind generators.
Today, wind energy is widely used in generators with permanent magnets. One of the main disadvantages of this type generator is increased tolerance torque value, especially in the energy generators with high-quality permanent magnets, made, for example, from neodymium iron boron alloy. In turn, high start-up torque values leads to the fact that wind power plants turbine starts to turn at higher wind speed, thus narrowing down the wind speed range of work in the following power equipment.
Wind power plant generator with excitation from permanent magnets is proposed with the aim to reduce the values of generator´s start-up torque. The rotor poles of generator are made from permanent magnets which are equal by form and dimensions and are shifted from each other by a certain angle. The permanent magnets in the pole are shifted from each other by an angle delta.
When a pole of rotor is made of discrete permanent magnets, which are shifted from each other by the angle delta within the boundaries of the stator´s tooth pitch, much smoother transition of rotor´s pole can be ensured crossing the stator´s tooth zone, and that decreases the value of the generator´s start-up torque. That, in turn, ensures much lower initial speed of wind and wider diapason of working wind speed in total.
Institute is looking for commercial agreement with technical assistance in order to offer the technology for acquisition by the result of international cooperation.
Advantages and Innovations:
Stator tooth contour is fully covered with a rotor pole permanent magnet. In this case, magnetic flux values lock together with stator coils placed in the anchor grooves and the corresponding voltage value of the coil, turning the rotor to maximum.
Compared with today´s known generators with permanent magnets and stator teeth oblique, the characteristics proposed in the solution is more efficient and easy to implement.
