Supply chain management of dangerous goods: security advisor and cloud software to reduce human mistakes
A Spanish SME has developed a series of tools including online communication with all the agents involved in the dangerous goods (DG) supply chain: shipper, carrier, loading and unloading sites, mainly aimed to obtain safe and efficient solutions that reduce human mistakes to zero in the entire supply chain. They seek partners for R-Y-D agreements or commercial agreements with technical assistance to adapt the methodology to specific situations and requirements.
The heterogeneity of types of dangerous goods together with the risks that involve their handling makes necessary to satisfy all security and safety policies. This requires the involvement of a security advisor who can guide the different stakeholders about dangerous goods handling, needed documentation, signaling of trucks or packaging labeling.

Moreover, transportation of goods involves several parties including shipper, transport companies and loading and unloading sites. The high amount of parties involved is translated in a high flow of information between them, being very complex its handling for each stakeholder. The market is growing in a fragmented way, producing a decrease of single stakeholders´ control over transports. This has created the need of information sharing between all the parts of the supply chain.

The use of Information and Communication (ICT) solutions is recognized as a very powerful tool for safe, effective and efficient operations; for example, for freight tracking or fast information sharing.

Nowadays, different software has been developed in order to facilitate hazard goods management and transport. Some approaches facilitate the creation of dangerous goods transport documents, consignor declarations or checklists; others have created a cloud solution for shipment tracking and mobile functions for executing transport and delivery activities via the app, and modular designs for transport and dangerous goods management have also been created. Even these tools make easier dangerous goods transport management, the use of an easier software that allows a high level of information sharing (e.g. safety data sheets, legal documents for the proper transport, goods tracking, or signaling) between members of the supply chain, and covers together transport and all documentation related to dangerous management will make things much easier. With this tool, for example, the unloading site will know if there is a delay at the beginning of the supply chain, improving their planning capacity; and all safety and security information of the arriving product will be automatically sent in advance, diminishing the number of human mistakes.

A Spanish SME, expert in the development of disruptive and innovative ICT global solutions applied to dangerous goods (DG) transport, has developed a series of tools including online communication with all the agents involved in the DG supply chain: shipper, carrier, loading and unloading sites.

The developed tools solve the management of all the technical requirements related to the transport of DG according to the Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), Regulations concerning the International Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID) and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG).

The main objective of the developed tool in the company is designing and developing safe and efficient solutions reducing the human mistakes to zero in the entire supply chain: from safety vision to environmental protection with "0 emissions".

The company would like to find partners to establish research agreements in the framework of European Programmes for R-Y-D-Y-I. Furthermore, collaborations as commercial agreements with technical assistance to adapt the developed tools to specific situations and requirements are also considered. This kind of cooperation could be established with transport companies, shippers, logistics service providers, consignors, consignees, port and inland terminals, governments, emergency responders, and other involved stakeholders.
Advantages and Innovations:
Nowadays, there are two different types of software available to make easier dangerous goods transport management. On the one hand, software related with the transport of dangerous goods solutions. This type of software does not communicate all technical requirements according with ADR (Agreement on Dangerous Goods by Road), RID (Rail) and IMDG (Sea) to other participants in the supply chain. On the other hand, Business to Business (B2B) solutions are focused on communication between participants in the logistics supply chain. However, they do not include the exchange of technical requirements of dangerous goods.

Available software related with the transport of dangerous goods includes:

- Dangerous Goods Notes.
- Required personal protective equipment (PPE) and fire extinguishers on board for the shipment.
- Required driver licenses.
- Labeling and marking information for shipped products.
- Checking to be done during loading/unloading operations.
- Kind of tank vehicle (accepted tank codes and required "surge plates").
- Maximum degree of tank filling (defined by the type of product).

In addition to these requirements, the developed ICT tool has more functions, offering the following advantages:

- Communication of the information to involved parts in the supply chain (loading site, transport company, unloading site).
- Authorization of the tasks and communication of incidences by the consignee.
- Number of required strips on board for proper stowage of the cargo.
- Stowage document according to EN 12195-1:2010.
- Selection of the most appropriate kind of vehicle to transport the dangerous good (closed, ventilated...).
- Special provisions applicable to the shipped products.
- The Site (Un) loading Information Document (SULID).
- All applicable incompatibilities with other dangerous goods and food products.
