Un laboratorio francés ha desarrollado y patentado herramientas de fácil manejo para diseño de matrices de puertas programables de campo (FGPA) en circuitos integrados que se configuran después de la fabricación. La solución permite explorar el hardware/software teniendo en cuenta la información, interfaz y dispositivo. Las limitaciones en tiempo real (Calidad de Servicio) de la aplicación se verifican mediante un simulador systemC altamente configurable. La plataforma permite explorar la arquitectura reconfigurable parcial y dinámica de unidades de hardware, hacer simulaciones de unidades de software y unidades de hardware reconfigurables a un alto nivel de abstracción, determinar el número necesario de unidades de hardware/software y colocar las unidades reconfigurables de hardware en el dispositivo FGPA. Se buscan industrias especializadas en diseño de FGPA con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia y colaborar en actividades de I+D.

The solution allows exploring hardware / software taking into account information, interface and targeted device. Industries dealing with FGPA design are sought for license agreement or R&D collaboration (possible co-funded).
Description:
Design Space Exploration for systems based on FGPAs (Field-Programmable Gate Array) with dynamic reconfiguration cannot be performed during early stages of the development process and designers hence prefer a static solution, maybe non-optimal in terms of area and device cost.

The technological solution of the French university allows exploring mixed hardware / software solutions where the hardware design space, the floorplanning or reconfigurable regions placed on the FGPA, is automatically inferred from application resources information, interfaces constraints and the targeted device. Real-time constraints (Quality of Service) of the application are verified by a highly configurable systemC simulator. The solution is a graphical toolbox that helps the graphical description of the application diagrams and the input of the solution flow parameters.

It enables in one toolbox platform to:
- Explore the partial & dynamic reconfigurable architecture for hardware units
- Simulate the software units & reconfigurable hardware units at high level of abstraction
- Determine the necessary number of hardware / software units
- Generate the placement of hardware reconfigurable units on the target FGPA device
- Generate the scheduling trace of applications on the target architecture.
The main applications are therefore FGPA space design, FGPA performance design and FGPA consumption design.
