Summary:
A South East UK University has developed smart technologies that combine simulations across length scales for applications where the release and subsequent tracking of species is important, particularly in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) applications. It is interested in partnering via joint ventures with industry and researchers who will complement the development of the tools such as experimental facilities, bespoke data collection experts, new application areas.
Description:
The approach is robust and maps onto the HVAC application domain: the unique tools which are continually being developed can be applied to:

(1) Prediction of comfort conditions in buildings, e.g. temperature, Co2, Co, etc levels.
(2) Scenarios which include fire/smoke/contaminants release and its impact to the enclosure, both simple and complex have been considered including particulate matter.
(3) Some work relating to the energy requirements of buildings (Green buildings, etc).
(4) Development of specific tools for HVAC, deposition, absorption, scrubbing of gasses and particulates etc.
(5) Spread of harmful species from releases, indoor as well as outdoor. Include exhaust gasses from cars, in car parks or aircrafts as examples.
(6) Effect of eternal conditions, e.g. releases on indoor environments.
(7) Reverse modelling to pinpoint source location of contaminants.
(8) HVAC involving electronic packages - e.g. data centres, thermal design, etc.
(9) Impact of thermal glazing in terms of energy requirements for enclosures.
(10) Ventilation design and optimisation for engineering processes - e.g. hoods, capture zones for particulates, etc.
(11) Bespoke tools to visualise the results generated for specific scenarios.
(12) Linking the local environmental conditions to population exposure effects and evacuation.
(13) Multi-scale (two-way micro to macro coupling) linking of physics across application areas, e.g. wide scale plume to urban to indoor, electronic packaging, etc.
(14) Design and model smart building systems, e.g. fire and ventilation control systems which could address HVAC specific issues.
