This technology is efficient at low concentration of hydrogels and can be useful for water treatment or chemical recycling.

Description:
The laboratory conducts research on biochemistry, particularly on hydrogels and found a new application of these systems.
Their technology is based on amphiphile hydrogels known as GNF (Glycosyl-Nucleoside Fluorinated amphiphiles) and allows to trap in one step all the nanoparticles in an aqueous medium with a 100% efficiency and with very small particles size.
By adding the GNF in a nanoparticles aqueous solution and then by heating and cooling the mixture, the gel will form by trapping all the nanoparticles and the supernatant aqueous solution is completely devoid of nanoparticles. Morever, even after stirring, the gel is not dissolved in the solution and remains separated from the liquid medium.
The field of application of these hydrogels are:
- Decontamination of contaminated fluids in a very general manner. The laboratory chose to apply to nano particles and limit to the aqueous medium but the technology must be extended beyond these applications.
- Recovery of nanoparticles (hydrogels will act as "sponge" of nanoparticles and then release in a controlled environment.)

The laboratory is seeking partners in the field of water treatment or chemical recycling for licence or technical cooperation agreement.

Advantages and Innovations:
The decontamination with this hydrogel is completely efficient and requires a very low concentration of hydrogel (0.1% weight). Once the gel is formed and entraps all the particles, it doesn't dissolute and is easy to remove from the solution for the final separation.
