Un grupo de investigación de un instituto búlgaro ha desarrollado una tecnología de sensores avanzada dentro de un proyecto del programa FP7. La diferencia potencial entre la muestra irradiada y la puesta a tierra del sistema se mide sin contacto y de forma rápida. Sus aplicaciones son diversas: obtención de información valiosa de las superficies sólidas irradiadas, es decir, la presencia de imperfecciones y defectos mecánicos, impurezas y estados de superficie, características eléctricas de la superficie, etc., caracterización sin contacto de semiconductores, recuperación remota de información en un objeto sólido y su desplazamiento, dependencia de una muestra a la temperatura, etc. El instituto busca una pyme o gran empresa para el desarrollo tecnológico de nuevos sensores basados en el efecto de carga de fotografías superficiales (SPCE) con el fin de establecer acuerdos comerciales con asistencia técnica.

Description:
Bulgarian institute´s research team achieved new sensor technology in the framework of the FP7 project, which has been evaluated as a breakthrough technology for new sensors based on the Surface Photo-Charge Effect (SPCE).
The potential difference between the irradiated sample and the common electric ground of the system is measured contactless and fast. SPCE is inherent to all kinds of solids which makes the sensors market competitive for analysis of solids, liquids and gases.
The experimentally tested applications of this SPCE method are:
¿obtaining valuable information about the irradiated solid surfaces, namely about the presence of mechanical defects and imperfections, impurities and surface states, surface electrical characteristics such as a type of conductivity, etc. One can trace the shape of the produced surface structures, for example, by ion implantation.
¿Contactless characterization of semiconductors.
¿Remote retrieval of information on a solid object and its displacement.
¿¿he temperature dependence of a sample.
¿Another field of applications is the gas, vapor and liquid sensors development on the basis of SPCE. The method provides information on fluids and processes taking place therein. For example, it is possible to monitor the octane factor of gasoline, impurities in liquids, the concentration of gases, fog control.
¿Construct a level-meter indicating the level of a liquid without moving parts.
¿Monitoring the deposition of materials from solution. For example, such a change was observed when CaCO3 was deposited on a metal surface from water.
¿¿xpress contactless chemical composition test of samples, for example counterfeit coins - the detector could be designed relatively economically and small in size, so as to be installed in any coin-operated machine. In addition to the protection of the national currency, the SPCE may find many other applications. For example, various types of absorbing filters for gases and liquids can be monitored to determine when they need to be replaced. Test of drinking water from the public water distribution system or that distributed to an army in field operations is technically feasible. Very often when making special details in industry, it is important to know if there are changes in the chemical composition of the material from which they are being made. At present such control on every separate detail is not usually done. The offered method can also be applied to such purposes.
¿Registration of specific reactions and processes taking place in milk. It is proposed a technique for instantaneous detection of inhibitors (antibiotics) in milk. It can be suggested possible methods for quality control of milk and other foods.
¿Monitoring the quality, of raw materials in particular for the manufacture of ceramic products and especially for bricks has been investigated. This monitoring solves technological, environmental and energy saving problems. The obtained results indicate the possibility of control of incoming raw materials and other industrial processes.
SME or large company with experience of development or selling of sensors for analysis of solids, liquids and gases are sought for further commercialization under commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Advantages and Innovations:
Advantages of the SPCE based sensors
1. The measurement is contactless. It is not necessary to place special electrodes onto the investigated sample. Direct contact, between the sample and the electrode generating the measured signal, is also not necessary.
2. The measurement is express. There is no delay caused by principal physical constraints. The time required depends on the technical characteristics of the used equipment.
3. SPCE exists for all matter therefore it can be used for developing sensors for different materials - solid, liquid, gaseous, powdered, etc.
4. No expensive elements are particularly required for the construction of such devices and therefore they can be low-cost.
5. The practical solutions for various cases are simple and without voluminous components which allows the construction of small enough in size sensors.
6. This type of sensors can be used for on-line and/or in-situ control.
7. The measurement does not require complicated procedures and can be carried out by personnel without a certain type of skills or education. This allows for realistic implementation of these devices in production.
8. The observed electrical signal reacts to different changes in the surveyed object. Therefore such sensors can be developed for various parameters of interest.
9. Realizing quality control through SPCE does not introduce additional hazards for the health, fire safety, appearance of defects, etc.
