Un instituto de investigación checo ha desarrollado y probado con éxito una junta de soldadura de cerámica-metal para entornos de agua supercrítica. La principal área de aplicación se encuentra en el campo de sensores que operan a una temperatura y presión extremas, 600º C y 25 MPa respectivamente. Los materiales empleados se basan en corindón, monocristal de óxido de aluminio (Al2O3) y acero inoxidable grado 316L. Se buscan socios interesados en adaptar la tecnología a necesidades específicas, así como empresas con el fin de producir la tecnología bajo acuerdos de licencia.

Description:
Super-critical water is a very specific environment with extremely high temperatures and pressure. Therefore, it is very complicated not only to find the specific materials able to withstand these conditions, but also to find appropriate methods of bounding such materials in order to operate under specific conditions.
The super-critical water conditions starting at the pressure of 22 MPa and temperature of 374°C.

The Czech research institute has developed and successfully tested new ceramic-metal joint based on soldering for super-critical water conditions, which was tested at pressure of 25 MPa and at the temperature of 600°C with positive results.
Normally the measurements needed for the application operating with these conditions are done when the system is off or materials are taken off from the spaces with described conditions, therefore the result might be altered by currently used process. The offered joint, useable primary for the sensors is able to perform under the extreme heat and pressure, providing much more exact results.
The materials used are based on corundum, mono-crystal of aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and stainless steel grade 316L. The components were chosen due their ability to withstand the conditions as well as their physical abilities suitable especially for the sensors. The components are bounded specifically by Ag 272a and the key technical solution is in the specific geometry of the soldered joint.

The joint know-how is based on a specific geometry of the joint, which allows soldering metal and ceramic parts. The joint was successfully tested as a part of the sensors in the extreme work environments as described above, but its exploitation might be widened as well.

Known competing solutions for such extreme conditions (either based on soldering or other methods of jointing materials) are unable to withstand temperatures and pressures as specified above.

Ceramic-metal joints are exploitable especially for scientific instruments in super-critical water environment as well as in similar high-temperature environments, e.g. corrosive sensor, oxygen concentration sensor, gas or chemicals sensor etc.
