A French laboratory developed a new system of energy production based on the vibration energy. The system is mechanical and very sensible to small vibrations. By catching those movements, the system is able to produce a small energy to generate electricity and make systems self-sustainable in energy.
The lab is looking for industries to build a partnership on the partner specific sector of application. The cooperation could be a license, a research or a technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
A French team of researchers, included in a laboratory of the university, with more than 70 people and 20 years of experience, is working on application and fundamental research in collaboration with industries on mechatronic systems (mechanics and electronics systems for industries applications).
The applications are dedicated to energy, production, health industries with large production machines or tools.
Their knowledge and works concentrate on the quality, the conception, the instrumentation, and the monitoring of systems, their use and the equipment specific functions.
One part of their research focus on mains supply and energy sources for instruments. The other part is the on-site technology integration and the global energy management system.
The solution developed is a vibration recuperation technology that replaces batteries in autonomous systems, like sensors and networks of communication. A small quantity of energy is produced as a result of the conversion of surrounding movements/vibrations. The spectrum for vibration recuperation is very large, and the electricity generated can be stocked and used after storage.
The technology is based on a piezoelectric ceramic, which is catching movement on a wide frequency band (1Hz - 100Hz), converting it and use the energy to supply a tension of release regulated (1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V or 3.6V).
The generators have a life cycle of 10-year-old superior in severe environment (-40°C - 105°C). Their wide bandwidth allows a big adaptability towards the cases of applications. For example, the technology is adapted to rugged environment where battery could not be used or could not be easily replaced.

First prototypes are working from 1mW to 30mW, compatible with wireless communication protocols like zigbee or others.
The main advantage of the technology is to facilitate maintenance and to reduce significantly its costs.

The lab has already experienced various application domains such as : rotating machines for mechanical industries, rail structure, aeronautical parts for transport industry, buried pipeline for petrochemicals industries. The solution is available for demonstration and need to be designed for industrial or commercial use in those industrial sectors.

The French laboratory is looking for partnerships in the previous sectors and also want to explore new market opportunities, for example within IoT, consumer electronics, connected and embedded systems sectors.

They would cooperate with industrial partners (SMEs, mid-caps, large companies) under a license, a research or a technical cooperation agreement.

The industrial partner could be able to own the final product, integrating the microsource of vibration energy and define the specifications for an efficient system. The industrial is the integrator of the technology.
The collaboration agreement would be a license agreement if the industrial only wants to integrate the technology to its product.
Further collaboration could be a research cooperation agreement in order to improve the performances of the microsource technology.
