Tittle:
Lubricants for high temperatures, harsh conditions and noise reduction
Summary:
A Swiss company developed perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricants which are longer lasting, perform at wide temperature ranges and provide superior quality under harsh chemical applications. It is used in high vacuum applications, noise reduction and in the lubrication of plastic parts where conventional lubricants fail. The company is interested in technical or commercial agreements with companies active in manufacturing of devices that comprise moving parts operated under extreme conditions.
Description:
A lubricant is a substance introduced to reduce wear and friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat, noise and energy consumption generated when the surfaces move.

This Swiss company, a global leader in fluorochemicals, fluoropolymers and selected specialty and industrial chemicals, is active in markets like automotive, aerospace, air conditioning, electronics, fire suppression, refrigeration, clean water, oil and gas. The company has developed perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricants made from only fluorine, carbon, and oxygen. These perfluoropolyether oils are known by many names, including perfluoralkylether (PFAE) and perfluoropolyalkylether (PFPAE).
Compared to hydrocarbon based alternatives the PFPE lubricants are longer lasting which reduces frequency of relubrication, not only reducing operating costs, but also reducing waste and potential impact on the environment. PFPE lubricants are undamaged by, and nonreactive with, acidic or caustic cleaners and disinfectants, steam, moisture or high temperatures. The original properties of the fluids can be restored through regeneration, thus reducing or minimizing disposal and incineration.

These PFPE oils and greases deliver high performance, perform at wide temperature ranges (-75 to 400°C), and provide superior quality lubrication under harsh chemical conditions in comparison to other synthetic lubricants like, e.g. ester, polyethylene, alkylene glycol, phosphate ester or silicone based oils. It is used in high vacuum applications, noise reduction and in the lubrication of plastic parts.

Potential applications include, but are not limited to:
· Bearings and Sintered Bearings
· Electric Motor
· Gearboxes
· O-rings, Seals
· Valves
· (Vacuum-) Pumps
· Fans
· Noise reduction (Squeak and rattle)
· Internal lubrication of all-plastic parts (no reduction of mechanical performance)

The company is interested in a commercial agreement with technical assistance with companies active in manufacturing of devices that comprise moving parts operated under extreme conditions (high temperature, corrosive) to supply our products into existing and newly designed applications.

And in a technical cooperation agreement with companies active in manufacturing of devices that comprise moving parts operated under extreme conditions (very high temperature, corrosive environment) to develop new applications for our high performance PFPE oils and greases. The ability to perform tests on ageing under harsh conditions would be highly interesting to proof and document the reliability of our products.

The company is also interested to participate in a European funded research project (e.g. Horizon 2020) as partner.
Advantages and Innovations:
The key benefits of PFPE lubricants include:
· Extreme temperature stability, with operating ranges from
-75 °C up to 350 °C (-103 °F up to 662 °F) and
as high as 400 °C (752 °F) with appropriate metallurgy
· Longer lasting lubricant life than hydrocarbon based alternatives
· Decreased equipment failure and maintenance: Warranty claims and replacement costs may be reduced compared to using hydrocarbon based alternatives
· Increased profits: reduced downtime and maintenance costs
· Odorless and colorless
· Inert, nontoxic, and non-flammable
· Stable in 100% oxygen (liquid or gaseous) environment
· World-class technical service, with service centers in North America, Europe and Asia
