Un instituto de investigación alemán ha desarrollado una solución de medición topográfica de la superficie de un tronco de árbol con determinación de la curvatura. Esta tecnología permite determinar la calidad de la madera directamente durante el proceso de desrrame. Para ello varios sensores ultrasónicos aportan los datos necesarios, que un software combina en un escáner de contorno completo. La tecnología ofrece información fiable de la calidad y valor de la madera. Todas las medidas se determinan con un cabezal cortador, tecnología que ha sido patentada en Alemania. El instituto busca licenciatarios (fabricantes de cosechadoras y cabezales cortadores) con el fin de desarrollar los cabezales conforme a la tecnología ofrecida.

Description:
A German research institute has developed a solution which enables the determination of the wood quality directly during the felling an delimbing process. Forest harvesters are increasingly used in timber operations. Self-propelled harvesters enable to cut down a tree, relieve the strain and cut the trunk into pieces of a desired length.
However, not only the length but also the volume and especially the full contour are important for the sale and quality analysis of the wood provided for removal.
For a better quality analysis of the strains, researchers of the institute have developed an improved aggregate in the harvester´s processing head. This allows for the first time a topographic measurement or full contour measurement and a determination of the log curvature. For this purpose, several ultrasonic sensors supply the necessary data, which a software combines into a "full contour scan". This allows reliable information on the quality and value of the wood, even during harvesting.

All these measurements can be determined with the harvester head. This technology is already patented in Germany.
