Un grupo del Sistema Sanitario Público de Andalucía (SSPA) ha desarrollado un medio de cultivo celular para el aislamiento y/o enriquecimiento de células madre cancerígenas (CSC). Esta tecnología es novedosa porque no requiere la manipulación previa de las células y es un medio condicionado libre de suero. El nuevo medio condicionado libre de suero favorece la proliferación in vitro y la conservación del potencial de pluripotencia de células madre cancerígenas y permite el mantenimiento de un estado indiferenciado de la subpoblación de CSC, y al mismo tiempo no permite la supervivencia de células diferenciadas. El grupo de investigación busca socios en los sectores público y privado con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia o cooperación técnica para desarrollar la tecnología.

A group of health research public service of Andalusia (SSPA) has developed a cell culture medium suitable for the isolation and/or enrichment of cancerous stem cells (CSCs). This technology is an innovation: it does not require prior manipulation of cells, and it is conditioned medium serum free.
This research group is seeking to establish a licensing agreement or an agreement of public-private partnership in order to develop such technology (technical cooperation agreement).

Description:
A Spanish research group from the Andalusian public health service, whose field of activity is, among others, the medical oncology, supported by two Andalusian universities, has developed this innovative cell culture medium. This can be considered a foundamental step in cancer fighting.

The research group has developed a new conditioned medium serum free, which promotes the in vitro proliferation and conservation of pluripotency potential which allows to maintain an undifferentiated state of cancer stem cells (CSCs subpopulation and at the same time does not allow the survival of differentiated cells.

The invention is about a cell culture medium for isolating and/or enriching cancer stem cells (CSCs), produced by means of the method that essentially comprises the culturing of mesenchymal stem cells in a conventional serum-free medium, and the collection of the medium thus produced. The resulting conditioned medium can be filtered, frozen and/or concentrated. The invention is also about a CSC-enriching method consisting in sowing, in the prevoius conditioned medium, a sample containing CSCs, and producing the cell population produced, and to thid same method, with the additional characteristic that, before culturing the CSCs in the conditional medium, the culture is treated with diluted trypsin, and the cells, which are sensitive to trypsin and have a higher percentage of CSCs, are isolated.

The research group aims to formalize a technology transfer process with entities interested in the implementation of the solution, through a license agreement. If there are some entities, such as R-Y-D centers, technology centers or specialized companies, interested in collaborate and develop further aspects of the solution, a technical cooperation agreement could be envisaged.
This technology is protected under patent.
Advantages and Innovations:
This serum-free conditioned medium does not require prior manipulation of cells, and can also be from a small town with no extra cost.

A first aspect of the invention consists in an enrichment method of cancer stem cells (CSCs), as well as obtaining a population basically pure of CSCs.

Another aspect of the invention is the process used to obtain a medium for cell culture. In particular, a medium for cell culture useful to isolate and/or enrich CSCs, as well as to obtain a popuation of CSCs fundamentally pure.

By the way, these are only some of the innovative aspects of this technology.
