Description:
The offered technology has been developed by an Estonian university with a strong scientific background in sensor signal processing.

Existing impedance measurement instrumentation is bulky, costly and results in high power consumption. Furthermore, they require a long measurement time and do not to perform dynamical (real-time) measurements.
The offered solutions enables to conduct electrical impedance measurement using simple hardware and refines accuracy at even a large number of simultaneous measurement frequencies. The implementation of single-chip solution enables advantages in cost, size and power-efficiency.

Impedance spectroscopy has a wide field of applications:
1) bio-medical applications- e.g. monitoring of the body composition, breathing and heart-rate activities, but also lab-on-chip applications for analysing samples of blood, water, soil, etc.)
2) eddy current measurement and identification of metals and alloys and their physico-chemical and geometrical properties, including the thickness of coatings or corroded layers and defect.
Core of the innovation is the use of simple binary excitation signals (with sophisticated and specially designed spectra) in combination with smart correction of the binary signal non-idealities. The developed prototype has a wide frequency range from 1kHz to 500 kHz (it can be easily extended up to 1 MHz) and about 0.1% accuracy with speed of 1000 measurements per second (for up to 16 simultaneous frequencies).

The Estonian university is looking for partners interested in license agreement with manufacturers of medical equipment and companies dealing with chemistry or material measurements. Technical cooperation/commercial agreement with technical assistance with partners interested in further development and improvement of the solution is also sought. Demonstrators are available upon request.
Advantages and Innovations:
The offered technology has clear advantages over alternative solutions:
· Gains in cost-, size- and power-efficiency. For example, one implementation solution is using only single low-cost and general-purpose digital signal processor (DSP) chip.
· High scalability: it is possible to design prototypes with other specific parameters.
· Efficient embedded implementation.
· Novel solution for improving accuracy: the solution includes improvement algorithm to correct various non-idealities, (e.g. from the usage of the binary signals with rectangular shape at the limited sampling rate).
