Este sistema se utiliza para garantizar la seguridad de navegación de barcos o la seguridad de operaciones en plataformas offshore. El sistema incluye un conjunto de videocámaras conectadas y sincronizadas que se instalan a bordo de plataformas móviles (barcos o plataformas offshore flotantes). La universidad busca socios industriales con el fin de licenciar la patente o establecer una cooperación técnica para continuar con el desarrollo y adaptar la tecnología a aplicaciones específicas. Description:
This invention developed by the research group of an Italian University relates to a method and apparatus for the spatial measurement over time of the sea surface from mobile platforms or vessels. The system comprises a set of connected and synchronized video cameras, which are placed on board mobile platforms (for example vessels or floating offshore platforms). This apparatus allows to plot a 4-D field (space time) image of the waves, by performing a spatial measurement over time of the 3D reconstruction of the surface of the sea waves. Industrial companies interested to patent license/assignment agreements or to technical cooperation agreement in order to develop specific applications are sought. The research group is also interested to find other academic partners for further research collaboration projects.
Advantages and Innovations:
The invention allows to plot the images of the wave surfaces with greater accuracy and better resolution of the wave-motion map even in the proximity of the vessel. This is a great advance in the state of the art, since it does not require a complex process of calibration. The most innovative aspect of the invention is the possibility to measure the wave motion from mobile platforms, without losing accuracy in the measurement. The invention lends itself to the collection of scientific data in different states of the sea from research or opportunity vessels, as well as being used by vessels for "operational" knowledge of the state of sea in which they are navigating. Moreover the system uses "remote measurement", which avoids putting the apparatus in direct contact with the sea water and thus alleviates the disadvantages due to corrosion.
This new method and apparatus for the spatial measurement of sea waves is particularly advantageous for ensuring safety of navigation, for example by changing the speed and/or route of the ship as a function of the effective wave motion that it encounters, and to ensure the safety of operations to be performed on board, such as, for example, in the case of an offshore platform. For this reason it can be of great interest for freight or passengers vessels, as well as for companies involved in drilling operations on off-shore platforms. The data collected through the use of this new method and apparatus can also lead to better knowledge of sea waves and further advances in the scientific literature.
