Description:
A German university institute specialized in electro technology offers investigation related to processes of induction heating, induction melting and dielectric heating. This can be done using numerical simulation tools, analytical by mathematical modeling or by experiments.

For experimental investigation, the institute has a wide range of generators which are, next to inductor coils, the core of every induction heating / melting process. The power supply ranges from 2 - 440 kW and the frequency of the generators offer a range from 0 (DC) - 1.2 MHz.
The electrical heating is a clean and very efficient technology which can be used for cost efficient production processes and can be controlled automatically.

With a good understanding of its physics it is possible to design heating processes with a high accuracy in the distribution of heating sources in the workpiece and thus to gain high material quality. Most prominent examples are the induction hardening for high duty parts, induction heating for forging, induction melting of metals.

Co-operations with companies or other R-Y-Ds are sought through a variety of contractual mechanisms, including cooperative research and development agreements, in-house research at universities and other forms of technical cooperation.

The advantages of the use of electrical heating applications are the following:

- highly controlled and automated heating process
- clean (no CO2 emission in the production i.e. compared to gas heating)
- high efficiency since it is a direct heating process which
- means that the heat is generated inside of the workpiece
