Description:
A small German engineering company offers components for sandwich-injection moulding (coinjection) of thermoplastics and technology consulting.
The products manufactured by the company for the injection moulding of thermoplastics are machine components adapted to the existing technology. They allow the so-called sandwich-injection moulding (coinjection). 2 plastic melts are successively injected in a cavity. The first injected plastic solidifies only at the surface to the cavity (skin material). Then the second melt is injected in the still liquid interior (core material). The defined injection of the two melts is realized by melt pressure-driven piston in the sandwich-nozzle.

3 products are offered for different fields of application:

- 2K sandwich intermediate plate
The valve unit is located inside a steel plate which is installed with screws between the nozzle-side mould plate and the stationary plate of the machine. This allows a high flexibility regarding to the injection moulding machine. The 2K sandwich intermediate plates are offered for any machine size and any assembly of the second injection unit. They are recommended for small and medium-sized injection moulding machines (appr. 4.000 kN clamp force).

- 2K sandwich-nozzle heads
The 2k sandwich valve is built in a housing which is fixed connected to the melting and injection cylinder of the machine. The nozzle heads are perfect for large machines with not many mould changes and parallel or rucksack arrangements of the second injection unit.

- 2K sandwich "hot-face"
The nozzle-side mould plate consists of at least two parts: the cavity plate and the so-called "hotface", in which the 2K sandwich valve is permanently installed.

The combination of the injection moulding with other processes like foaming and water injection (WIT) allows further technical and economic effects as well as special characteristics of the developed plastic components.

The combination of different plastics makes it possible to develop mouldings of thermoplastics with new and improved features.

- Cost saving through usage of recycled plastics material in the core
The company has developed special nozzles for the sandwich-technology.

These nozzles prevent a mixture of the different components and distinguish themselves by the following advantages:

- High flexibility and simple installation - sandwich-nozzles can be installed into the injection unit, into the injection moulding machine or directly into the mould
- Suitability for all machine sizes and machine types of retrofitting and new machines
- Large valve passages of melt channels in the sandwich-nozzle
- Integrated lock-nozzle-function (comparable with a shut-off- nozzle at the standard injection moulding
- Weight saving without loss of mechanical resistance on the mouldings with foamed core and smear-free surface
- Realization of long distances of melt flow even in thin-walled moulding parts
- Low pressure losses in the sandwich-nozzle, low shearing of plastic melts by the use of pistons as switching element in order to control the melt flow
- No melt leakage - metallic sealing
- Solutions easy to be integrated into the manufacturing process solutions without additional drives and signals
- No restriction of performance characteristics of the injection moulding machine
- Optional injection order (skin-core or skin-core-skin), multiple use.
The fields of application for multicomponent injection moulding machines can be extended by the use of sandwich-nozzles.
