Una universidad turca ha desarrollado una nueva formulación de un film para el tratamiento de la onicomicosis. Actualmente se utilizan muchas formulaciones para el tratamiento de hongos en las uñas pero no existe ninguna preparación mejorada. La universidad ha preparado una formulación de un film de liposomas con hipocloruro de terbinafina y pululano para el tratamiento ungueal de la onicomicosis. Se buscan centros de investigación y multinacionales interesados en utilizar la tecnología en nuevas aplicaciones y establecer acuerdos de licencia.

The university is interested in reaching a licensing agreement with a research institution or multi-national company interested in adopting this technology for wider use.
Description:
Nail fungus (onychomycosis) is a common chronic nail infection. Oral and topical drug treatments are used for treatment of nail fungus. Terbinafine is one of the most widely used active ingredient for treatment of onychomycosis. Although there are some improved topical formulations for fungal infection on the skin but there is no improved preparations for nail fungus. Therefore, film formulation of terbinafine hydrochloride loaded liposome and included pullulan was prepared for ungual treatment of onychomycosis. The university is interested in reaching a licensing agreement with a research institution or multi-national company interested in adopting this technology for wider use.
Advantages and Innovations:
-Topical terbinafine hydrochloride could reduce side effects of systemic application.
-The important advantage of these systems is application nail plate and therapy could stop anytime.
-Liposome pullulan film formulation is effective and has easy application to the nail plate.
-The film has bioadhesive effect therefore the formulation could stay on nail plate long time and effectiveness will increase, treatment time will decrease.
-It is cost effective because there is no need to apparatus for application.
-This invention has potential of high market share.
-It provides a high patient compliance, because there is no need for complicated application.
-This invention increases the bioavailability of terbinafine.
-Stability studies were completed. Nail infection created in rabbits cured after 4 weeks.
