A university based in Berlin (Germany) has developed a knee brace which reduces constraint forces and the migration effect along the patient´s leg by solving the incongruity problem between knee and orthotic device. They are looking for a licensee who is interested in developing a product which is ready for the market.
Description:
Rehabilitative knee braces help in limiting potentially harmful knee movements while a person is rehabilitating after a recent knee surgery or an injury. They can be used to stabilise and immobilise the knee after injuring the inner or outer collateral ligaments.

Knee brace migration is a common problem which can affect patient compliance and possibly even reduce the effectiveness of a device. The key to minimizing knee brace migration is to make sure that the device fits the patient´s anatomy as closely as possible.

Therefore, a Berlin-based German university has developed a novel knee brace which solves the incongruity problem between knee and orthotic, thus minimizing the constraint forces and the migration effects.
The primary segment of the novel knee orthotic, which is mounted to the thigh, is fixed to a curved segment in a re-relocatable manner. The linear relocation is realized by the application of guide pins, which slip into the according notches. That way the migration of the knee brace along the patient´s leg can be prevented. The device also minimizes the constraint forces and reduces the burden for the soft tissue.

The university is interested in a license agreement which would transfer the rights to use the technology to a licensee who would develop a product which is ready to the market.
