The company is looking for commercial agreements with technical assistance.
Description:
Partial discharge measurement is the most important technique for assessing the insulation condition of high voltage systems and provides an effective solution for assessing the reliability of electrical installations.

In this context the Spanish company has developed an innovative partial discharge measurement and analysis system that resolves the weaknesses of other systems (see innovations and advantages field).

Main features:
- It assesses the condition of the insulation of appliances, equipment and materials for high voltage installations, such as GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), transformers and specially, insulated cables, either during operation in the network (on line) or out of service by mobile generators (off-line).

-It automatically detects partial discharges under the worst electrical noise conditions, thanks to the application of algorithms based on the wavelet transformed.

-The defects of partial discharge along the cable system are automatically detected and located. It can also locate partial discharge in a certain phase of the cable system.

-A 3D clustering tool based on the wave shape helps to find and classify the different partial discharge types in high voltage cable systems, even if they are located in the same point.

-Automatic evaluation of the insulation conditions based on the evolution of the partial discharges detected is performed by the partial discharge monitoring system.

It consists mainly of three types of elements that make up the measuring network. These elements are:

-Control and Analysis System (CAS): It consists mainly of a CPU and a synchronization system and its missions are the control, synchronization, reception, processing and analysis of the data acquired by the measuring systems and the storing of these data.

-Measuring System (MS): It acquires the partial discharge signals of three phases at the same time, following the synchronization order sent by the CAS through optical fiber. These data is captured by the sensors connected to its measuring channels. Once the data has been collected, the MS send these data to the CAS through the communication optical fiber.

-High Frequency Current Transformer (HFCT) partial discharge sensors: HFCT sensors are placed in the screen of the high voltage cable, and connected to the Measuring System through RG58 coaxial cable.

The company is looking to expand its international network through partners within the electrical sector willing to cooperate under commercial agreement with technical assistance.

Advantages and Innovations:
Most of the systems for partial discharge measurements existing on the market address the problem of the electrical noise by filtering the recorded signal in a frequency band in which it is measured. This filtering technique also produces the attenuation of the partial discharge signals for the range of the filtered frequencies.
It should be noted that the concept of this filtering technique results in the elimination or attenuation of the noise together with the partial discharge signal for the filtered frequency range. Other techniques perform an analysis of the noise signal frequency spectrum in order to select a measuring frequency band where the noise amplitude is as low as possible. Sometimes the band of the lowest noise signal coincides with the band where the partial discharge signal is also weak in amplitude, so far the partial discharge measurement is difficult and never free from noise threshold level. There are techniques that try to solve the noise problem measuring at a very high frequency (>30MHz) where the noise component conducted through the cable is negligible.
The limitation of these techniques is that the partial discharge signal for these measuring frequency ranges is greatly attenuated and it is very difficult to detect partial discharge coming from hundreds of meters away, which prevents from a good partial discharge location.
On the other hand, this technology gets the electrical noise elimination by doing the digital processing of the captured signals, consisting of applying the wavelet transform to the signal acquired and statistically analyze its components, in order to find characteristic transient events of partial discharge signals that are distinguished from the statistical evolution of the electrical noise. Therefore, with this technology it is possible to find partial discharge signals obscured by the noise level, even when the noise is random type.
