Description:
Existing precision glass tubes on the market are normally not provided with inner microstructures that enable special effects for industrial and creative applications. To close this gap a German SME with long-term operational expertise in precision glass processing has developed a novel technology. Originally this technology has been developed for glass tubes to be used in micro algae plants (photo reactors) to reduce the extremely high cleaning efforts. Other applications are sought now.
The technology offered is based on a newly developed shrinking process in vacuo and partial heating in a tube furnace. Several tested steel tools enable many different inner structures: rhombuses, grooves, rings, fish-bones etc. based on bionic approaches and solutions. Through this validated shrinking process the inner surfaces of the glass tubes are increased significantly - an essential property for applications as reaction vessels in chemistry and other equipment.
The final glass tubes provided with specific inner microstructures show increased precision and resistance in harsh environments found in mechanical engineering and processing plants. Existing solutions do not achieve the superior high precision and resistance properties as the offered technology.

Glass tubes with different micro-structured surfaces can also be used in the creative sector to achieve special customized effects requested by architects, lighting designers and other creative companies. They can use the glass tubes for their decorative installations and products with visual/optical effects like lamps, railings etc. Micro-engraving in the glass tubes are also possible.
