Una empresa rumana ha desarrollado un diseño mecánico capaz de realizar nuevas acciones: 1) transformar un movimiento rotatorio de una sola fuente en una trayectoria poligonal, 2) trasformar un movimiento rotatorio de una sola fuente en una trayectoria compleja abierta o cerrada (curvas, líneas rectas o ángulos) y 3) permitir el cambio de estructura o geometría de una cadena de piezas unidas (que contienen el motor eléctrico y el mecanismo) y la función sin un instrumento mecánico auxiliar ni otras estructuras de soporte. Esta solución tiene unos costes más reducidos que los sistemas actuales para realizar las mismas funciones y presenta una mayor rigidez, precisión y resistencia mecánica. 3. enabling a chain of linked parts (containing the electric motor and the mechanism) to change structure/geometry and function without exterior mechanical aid or other support structures.

Description:
The patent-pending mechanical design can be a solution for replacing complex servo-controlled machines with unitary mechanisms based on non-circular gearing, powered by a single source of motion, but the application areas are unlimited. Starting from one basic idea i.e. transforming a single-source circular motion (e.g. an electric motor) into a polygonal output trajectory, without guides / rails / external support, the company developed two prototypes proving the theoretical solution for two possible types of applications.

1. The first type of application consists in a complex output trajectory following the concept described above. The design can be adapted for custom output trajectories which can lead to low-cost and more reliable specialized, single-trajectory mechanisms.
It is capable of precision movement as well as high loads. The end point of the mechanism can be a tool head, a welding head, a grip etc. The mechanism can reproduce trajectories such robotic arms or Cartesian mechanisms (two engines or more).

2. The second type of application is based on "chains" of mobile units, assembled together through rigid linkages between any two consecutive units. The result is a self-structuring system, capable of changing shape or/and geometry and function according to either human or automated input. For example, such systems could be used in automated storage systems, automated interior design solutions, automated architectural elements ("Transformer" buildings) but the application areas are unlimited.

3. The third type of application consists in complex, modular structures which can be "folded" into the smallest volume possible (a cube) for transport, which structures will auto-deploy into the projected configuration when reaching the destination. One area for such solutions is outer-space logistics (packaging for placing structures into orbit, interplanetary transport etc).

The Romanian company is looking for manufacturing companies or R-Y-D organisations (in the fields: machine tools, robots, finished products, architecture design companies, logistics -Y- storage companies, outer-space industry, etc) interested in technical cooperation for developing the technology for their specific purposes. They are open to discuss most suitable cooperation type for every potential partner.

The main advantages of these engineering solutions are:
- lower costs comparing to present systems (manufacturing/buying, operating, maintenance) in order to perform basically the same tasks;
- higher stiffness, precision and mechanical strength provided to the system;
- a lower weight provided by the innovative motion system and elimination of guides/rails /external support;
- less space needed for operation because all parts of the mechanism are contained inside its trajectory;
- ideal for operating in closed or limited spaces;
- no need for dedicated software - it uses open library software;
- a safer and more reliable output trajectory determined by the elimination of human interference.

The innovative aspects are:
- enclosed mechanism inside the perimeter/decreased volume described by the output point of motion;
- only one source of motion needed to operate the entire mechanical assembly;
- the system uses only gears that there are more reliable than cables, chains, etc.
