La litiasis urinaria o cálculos urinarios es una enfermedad con una alta incidencia mundial. Aunque su tratamiento quirúrgico ha mejorado gracias al uso de vainas de acceso percutáneo, todavía presentan desventajas. El instrumento desarrollado por la fundación puede fabricarse con distintos diámetros y longitudes en función del equipo endoscópico empleado. La fundación busca empresas interesadas en establecer acuerdos de licencia o colaboración técnica para explotar la tecnología.

Summary:
Urinary lithiasis or urinary calculi is a disease with a high incidence worldwide. Although its surgical treatment has improved by the use of percutaneous access sheaths, they still present disadvantages. A Spanish research biomedical foundation has developed a new surgical device to avoid the inconveniences for both, patient and professionals. This foundation is looking for companies interested in license and/or technical collaboration agreement for its exploitation.

Urinary lithiasis or urinary calculi is a disease with a high incidence in both developed and emerging countries, which carries a high cost worldwide, both in terms of health care costs (material and human) as well as work level.
The use of percutaneous access sheaths for the surgical treatment of urinary lithiasis is a widely known technique. However, the conventional sheaths have several disadvantages such as, for example, the friction that makes the edge of the conventional access sheath with the flexible nephroscope, or the risk that the sheath migrates into the patient.
Due the experience in management of urolithiasis, this research group has developed a disposable percutaneous access sheath to which has been provided with a funnel-shaped segment attached to the front end of the sheath that prevents migration of the sheath into the patient, reduces the friction with the endoscopic material and allows easy introduction of material through it.
Employing this improved percutaneous access sheath will reduce part of the actual costs associated with the management of this disease, resulting in a tool as useful as necessary, in the field of urinary lithiasis.
The Spanish research foundation is seeking manufacturing companies of medical and/or fungible material for percutaneous surgery with particular focus in renal lithiasis for technical cooperation and or license agreement.
This device can be manufactured in different diameters and lengths, depending on which endoscopic equipment is used. A prototype has been manufactured in order to use it in experimental models with a high degree of satisfaction.

· Prevents friction with the flexible nephroscopy.
· Easement. It allows easy introduction of material to be used, both rigid and flexible material.

· Its ergonomics prevents muscle spasm (tetany) on the surgeon´s fingers in long interventions.
· Easy manageability. It facilitates the introduction of contrast for urography.
· Better radioprotection. It facilitates reference the bezel inside the sheath without to be guided with X-ray.
· Not worsen any of the characteristics of existing sheaths.
· Business advantages: easy manufacturing, materials already existed on the market, excellent safety profile.
