The technology enables cost savings by using regenerated core material respectively lightweight or new functional characteristics by using different materials. Industrial partners are searched for technical cooperation agreement and/or commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Description:
The small German engineering company has developed supplementary modules for injection moulding machines to upgrade them to co-injection respectively sandwich moulding technology. This technology enables multi-material mouldings with closed skin-core structure. As this is not a trivial solution, the company offers its knowhow to implement such processes.
This approach targets mould developers to enclose the material selection/development process, the early adoption and utilization of possible new functionalities as well as to enable possible new cost structures.

With sandwich-injection moulding (also called co-injection), plastic parts, consisting of two different plastic materials can be injected successively or also time simultaneously during one single process into the injection mould as skin material and core material.
The two areas of occurring advantages are
· Material cost savings with regrind as core material and only
new material as skin and
· New, different, combined characteristics, i.e.
- Weight reduction by using foamed polymers in the core
- Increase in strength by fibre reinforced polymers
- Colour effects by different coloured polymers, etc
The possibility to utilize plastics after use (waste plastics) not only thermally (combustion), but as a core material again is an outstanding possibility of sandwich-injection moulding. Depending on the geometry of part and the type of plastic, more than 50% of waste plastics can be processed. A specificity of the method is that the core layer is completely enclosed by (new) skin material. Experiences show that changes in the moulding properties are expected only in a very small scale.
At the other hand, the characteristics of different materials of the skin and the core provide a broad variety of features of the resulting multi-functional mouldings.
As well, to save the scarce and expensive resource of oil, so-called "Green" - or even "organic" - plastics, both of them from renewable resources, can be used for the production of various mouldings. These plastics are processable with the sandwich method, too.
Advantages and Innovations:
The offer combines two main areas of advantages:

(1) By using the technology, development and production with advanced characteristics become possible, e.g., as already described,
· Material cost savings with regrind as core material and only
new material as skin and
· New, different, combined characteristics, i.e.
- Weight reduction by using foamed polymers in the core
- Increase in strength by fibre reinforced polymers
- Colour effects by different coloured polymers, etc
and
(2) The developed solution opens the way for almost all standard and multicomponent injection moulding machines to execute sandwich-injection moulding processes with very low expenditures for the upgrade..

Priority has the search for industrial partners developing plastic mouldings respectively ordering the development of plastic mouldings for technical cooperation agreement. These partners should be interested in developing multi-material mouldings.
In a second row, industrial partners ar sought, which are producing these plastic mouldings and which therefore need the technological upgrade for their equipment for commercial agreement with technical assistance. Alternatively, these can be partners, which are delivering injection moulding equipment.
