New non-invasive biosensor to determine the optimum female fertility status
A Spanish SME working in the clinical consulting field has patented a new biosensor device aimed at the recognition of the female fertile period based in the monitoring of the biophysical properties of cervical secretion. This non-invasive device is user friendly and cost effective and it helps in the diagnostic and treatment of subfertile conditions. The company is looking for medical devices manufacturers interested in license, technical cooperation or research cooperation agreements.
A Spanish SME with wide expertise in functional reproductive medicine and biotechnology has developed a prototype of a non-invasive biosensor device to identify and determine gradual changes in the biophysical characteristics of cervical secretion and thus monitor and determine the optimum fertile window.

One out of every six couples faces non desired delays in conception but most of them do not have absolute infertility and will conceive either spontaneously or with advice and treatment, so that only 4% remain infertile. Subfertility generally describes the condition of being less than normally fertile though still capable of effecting fertilization..

The present invention is intended to help in sub fertile patients, or even in cases with positive male factor, or sterility of unknown cause, to aid in the study of fertility, and to help solve sterility problems. It has the perspective of helping to objectify, with the current technologies, the best moment of the fertile window.

One of the methods of recognition of fertility refers to the changes of cervical secretion pattern throughout the menstrual cycle. Currently most of the studies that compare the window of fertility with cervical secretion to detect the fertile phase do so subjectively, and in general detect a longer interval with cervical secretion, compared to the classic tools.

Unlike the known antecedents, the new invention integrates the biophysical properties of the cervical secretion into an easy-to-use, easy-to-read device, with the possibility of low cost realization for domestic use and easy access to the public, to help the treatments of their fertility when a sperm is of low quality, since it integrates the measures of an optimal cervical secretion to fertilize an ovule and it is complemented with software to characterize online what is happening in the cervical secretion.

This device provides a system of analysis and quantifiable characterization of cervical secretion, that helps to estimate and improve the different states of recognition of fertility, in particular in the quantification of the transition phase of infertility to fertility and fertility to infertility. The invention aims to provide a greater understanding of the physicochemical properties of fertility recognition.

The present development allows measuring in an integrated way the biophysical characteristics of visco-elasticity, fluidity, and crystallization of the cervical secretion. This procedure is carried out by means of the measurements made by the sensors that are distributed in two axes, which move coordinatedly integrated with the central part of the device.
