El dispositivo funciona midiendo el coeficiente de reflexión en un extremo del cable en el dominio de frecuencia y, mediante un algoritmo de transformada rápida de Fourier, calcula la reflexión en el dominio del tiempo y la distancia al fallo. La empresa busca compañías especializadas en instrumentos electrónicos y tecnología de alta frecuencia con el fin de establecer acuerdos comerciales con asistencia técnica e implementar y continuar con el desarrollo de la tecnología.

The company seeks commercial agreements with technical assistance with electronics instruments and high frequency technology companies interested in the implementation and further development of this invention.
Description:
The innovative SME is a predominantly R-Y-D and prototyping company with broad experience in high-frequency and microwave technologies. The staff comprises a team of 6 engineers of which 2 with PhD in high-frequency engineering. The company has participated in several successfully implemented international and national projects.

The faults in cables are damages which effect a resistance in the cable. If they are not found on time this may lead to a voltage breakdown. There are different types of cable faults and the insulation of the cable also plays a significant role. Most cables used are particularly susceptible to external chemical and thermal influences. The insulation of the conductor may also be affected, leading to partial breakdowns and cracks that "eat away" the insulation.

Cable fault location is the process of locating periodic faults, such as insulation faults and is an application of electrical measurement systems. Any discontinuity along a cable causes a reflection of the wave, traveling along this cable.

The developed microwave device for cable fault locator functions by measuring the reflection coefficient at one end of the cable in the frequency domain. By the means of a Fast Fourier transform algorithm it computes the reflection in the time domain and the distance to fault. The system display plots the signal reflected due to the faults and discontinuities along the cable. The measurement is controlled by an embedded microcontroller. The tool has an autonomous power supply.

The SME seeks commercial agreements assistance with industrial partners interested in the implementation of this invention and development of other applications as quality control and technical consultancy will be provided.
