They are looking for commercial agreement with technical assistance, financial, licensing -Y- technical cooperation and are open to research cooperation.
Description:
A Greek SME specialised in biomedical engineering has designed an innovative device for the treatment of brain diseases, e.g., leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, with symptoms of elevated intracranial pressure. The device consists of a drug reservoir, a micropump, a catheter, a sensor of intracranial pressure, tubing to connect the pump to the catheter and the drug reservoir, tubing to divert Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to the abdomen and a controller to switch between intraventricular drug delivery and CSF diversion, by opening and closing appropriate valves in response to the sensor.

A single device serves a dual purpose: it maximizes therapeutic intraventricular drug delivery by circumventing the blood-brain barrier and reduces the elevated intracranial pressure by diverting CSF.

The Greek SME is looking for strategic partners to complete the development and bring the novel device to the market through technological -Y- research cooperation, financial agreement, licensing agreement and commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Advantages and Innovations:
- The device serves a dual purpose: (a) intraventricular drug delivery to treat brain disease and (b) diversion of CSF to alleviate symptoms of elevated intracranial pressure
- The novel device maximizes therapeutic benefits of drug delivery circumventing the blood-brain barrier (BBB)
- The innovative device reduces the high failure rate of CSF shunts because of complications due to obstructions, mechanical failure, infections and excess drainage.
