Una universidad española ha desarrollado un nuevo dispositivo de endodoncia basado en irrigación ultrasónica continua. Este nuevo dispositivo reduce el riesgo de infección a la vez que limpia y desinfecta la raíz de los dientes. El dispositivo consiste en un tubo que se inserta dentro de otro y que permite el intercambio ultrasónico continuo de un irrigante fresco cuando se aspira simultáneamente en la parte apical. La universidad busca socios industriales interesados en licenciar la tecnología o en establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica para continuar con su desarrollo.

Description:
Oral diseases are one of the most prevalent chronic disease today, representing a cost of 10% of medical expenses in the main developed countries. One of the biggest problems of endodontic treatments is given by the infections caused by bacteria present in the tooth roots. The methods currently used for cleaning and disinfecting tooth roots do not guarantee their effectiveness.The experimental work carried out by researchers of the Spanish university has allowed to develop a device which allows cleaning tooth roots more precisely, reducing the risk of infections.

The device has been designed for cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system. It introduces a new irrigation protocol to be applied once the instrumentation work is finished. It consists of a tube inside another tube that allows the continuous ultrasonic exchange of fresh irrigant, as it is simultaneously aspirated apically. It allows carrying the irrigant to canal branches with a negative apical suction, in order to prevent the extrusion of the irrigant.

The university would like to find companies from the medical industry interested in licencing the technology or to reach a technical cooperation agreement to further develop the technology.
