Description:
Usually sand filters are used for water purification, but they are occasionally used in the treatment of sewage such as a final polishing stage. The Korean SME is providing this innovative sand filter for using water and wastewater treatment, which is the latter case.

The main processing principle of this filter is using centrifugal mixing force of using water or waste-water. There is an centrifugal mixing zone in the filter for mixed reaction between colloid-type materials which are contaminated and suspended in the water and injected coagulation chemical.

The filtered contaminants such as suspended solid and floc are transported to the cleaning device in the upper part by the airlift in the central part. In the cleaning device (by using rotating vortex flow), sand and the contaminants created during the process of back-washing will be also effectively removed. This brings high processing efficiency of this filter. Besides, by making the size of the filter 30 to 35 percent smaller than existing upward flow filters, this sand filter became possible to be installed indoors not to speak of outdoors. For this reason, it is easy to transport and maintain.

The using water and waste-water gathered in the centrifugal mixing zone will be evenly injected to the lower part of the sand layer through multiple distribution injection tubes, which can prevent mud phenomenon due to drift and channeling that can be caused in the existing upward filtering distributors. With this system, performance improvement and smaller-sized filter can be achieved since it can maintain the sufficient height (1.5~2.1 meters) of the sand layer.
