Czech research institutes and Czech university have developed a completely new generator of shock waves using a multichannel discharge on composite anode to generate tandem shock waves. Generator is intended for non-invasive oncological treatments also in palliative medicine. Researchers seek research organisations and hospitals for research cooperation agreement and manufacturers of medical devices for a licencing agreement.
Description:
As a result of cooperation between two Czech institutes and Czech university involved in physics and medicine, a completely new generator of shock waves was created.

The shock wave has been used in medicine for more than 30 years to disintegrate calculi. Or, it was being used in orthopaedics and rheumatology, as well.

One of the main directions which the research follows today is focus on a possibility to damage tumor tissues. Therefore, a completely new type of shock wave generator has been developed. Unlike previous generator, this new one allows to generate, two waves consecutively - so called "tandem shock waves" (further marked as a TSW) and also to change characteristics of the waves. The generator uses a multichannel discharge on composite anode.

The device based on the novel generator is expected to expand possibilities of current methods of oncological treatments. It is equipped with a targeting system and other supporting systems.
Experimental works have shown that TSW generated by the new invention, can damage tumor tissues in vivo.

In palliative medicine, the aim of the device is to reduce the number of tumor cells and support chemotherapy. Therefore, the tandem shock wave therapy will be combined with cytostatic therapy. Other useful applications of the device are: crushing of the calculi in the body.

The device is already tested and available for demonstration. The new generator is patented.
