Este método monitoriza la actividad y vitalidad celular midiendo el contorno celular específico y su desarrollo. Para ello se han creado varios parámetros que interactúan con las células adyacentes y que son comparadas durante la monitorización. El científico busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia o continuar con el desarrollo del método de monitorización del contorno y movimiento de células mediante acuerdos de cooperación en materia de investigación.

Summary:
German scientist developed and patented a new method to analyse human and animal cell probes and cultures while testing new drugs, potential toxic substances or other substrates. The method that enables a monitoring of cell contour and movement is offered for licensing or for a common further development on the basis of a research cooperation agreement.
Description:
The test and analysis of the effects of new drugs, potential toxic substances and other substrates on living cells, especially human or animal cells, is one of the main fields for tolerability studies of new active pharmaceutical ingredients and materials. Long time before testing tolerability with real human or animal bodies, tests with human or animal cells are done in laboratories. Cultured cell probes get incubated with the new material or substance and all effects on the cell vitality get observed.

Except the light microscopy, all known methods base upon dead cell or upon putting additional testing equipment or substances into the living cells along with the agent to be tested. Those testing substances themselves are influencing the test environment and are altering the results. The exact influence of these testing substances is not known in most cases. Long-term testing is impossible with those methods. Furthermore, tests which are based for example on colour changes show poor spatial resolution regarding cellular damage. Most of the current tests are based on the release of intracellular enzymes and proteins caused by the destruction of the cellular membrane. The complete dissolving of the membrane occurs at a very late state of time, after the complete cellular death. Therefore, only statements for the entire cell culture are possible.

A scientist from a university located in the Northeast of Germany has developed and patented a new method to monitor cellular activity and vitality based on measuring the specific cellular contour and its development. To do so, several parameters are created which interact with the neighbour cells and which are comparable over the course of the monitoring. The monitoring is done by recording the cellular movement and growth by video recording through a microscope. At the start of the compatibility testing the substrate or material and the cells are brought together and get monitored over the course of 4 to 12 hours. All changes of the cells get recorded by video. After this, the entirety of the movement data from the cells is compared with reference data from tests with similar substrates. By doing so the offered method delivers information about effect and toxicity of the tested substances or materials.

The offered method is in a concept stage and needs a further development. The patented method is offered for licensing to Biotech companies or test laboratories interested in exploiting it for their business.
Additionally, the scientist is interested in a further common development on the basis of a research cooperation agreement in order to transfer this method into a daily routine of laboratories dealing with tests and analysis of new drugs, potential toxic substances and other substrates on living cells.
