Este nuevo método es más económico que otras tecnologías, como las resinas de intercambio iónico selectivas, y puede aplicarse en numerosas industrias, incluyendo tratamiento de aguas residuales y agua potable. La dosis del producto responsable de la precipitación puede controlarse mediante un electrodo selectivo o pH. Se buscan socios industriales con el fin de establecer acuerdos comerciales con asistencia técnica.

A Catalan SME working in the water treatment sector has developed a new method to remove boron from water by chemical precipitation.

Boron is usually removed from water by using a selective ion exchange resin. After resin exhaustion, boron is chemically removed and a high concentration boron waste is obtained which must be correctly disposed. This technology needs a high initial investment and high costs for use.

The new method developed by the Catalan SME for the removal of boron from water by precipitation is based in a chemical process. The dosage of the product responsible of the precipitation can be controlled either by selective electrode, or by pH. The chemical reaction needs around 1 hour to achieve the desired results. After precipitation, a sludge is obtained which can be treated for boron recovery.

For example, from an initial boron concentration of 30 ppm it is possible to obtain a very low level, under 1 ppm.

The technology has multiple application in most of industrial sectors and also in drinking water treatment.

Industrial partners for a commercial agreement with technical assistance are sought.
