Una universidad polaca ha desarrollado una tecnología que consiste en la construcción y uso de un plásmido específico para la creación de nuevas cepas bacterianas capaces de producir varios tipos de carotenoides (Paracoccus aminophilus KKP 2053p y Paracoccus kondratievae KKP 2054p) de forma eficiente. El plásmido obtenido se mantiene de forma estable en el cultivo bacteriano. La universidad ha solicitado la patente a la Oficina de Patentes de Polonia. Se buscan socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de licencia, fabricación o investigación.

The invention has been filed with the Polish Patent Office and is in Patent Cooperation Treaty phase. The university is looking for cooperation under license, manufacturing or research agreements.
Description:
A Polish university has developed an invention which comprises the construction and usage of specific plasmid for the creation of novel bacterial strains able to efficient production of various carotenoids. Obtained plasmid is stably maintained in bacterial culture. Using the specific plasmid two carotenoids-producing strains (Paracoccus aminophilus KKP 2053p i Paracoccus kondratievae KKP 2054p) were obtained. Both strains are also included within the invention. They can be fast and easily cultivated, using various media.

The invention has been filed to Polish Patent Office and in Patent Cooperation Treaty phase. University is looking for cooperation under license, manufacturing or research agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
· Specific Plasmid is a mobile genetic platform enabling the production of carotenoids - it´ s a mobilizable vector, so it can be easily introduced by conjugation to a variety of bacterial hosts (belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae and class Alphaproteobacteria).
· Plasmid is stably maintained in bacterial culture. It has a system to eliminate the plasmid-less cells.
· It is stably maintained in a bacterial population at 100% cells even after 120 generations of growth, and therefore it can be used even without the antibiotic pressure, which reduces the cost of the producing of carotenoid pigments.
· The carotenoid production by obtained strains P. kondratievae KKP 2054p and P. aminophilus KKP 2053p is efficient and cheap.
· The process of extraction carotenoid pigments from the bacterial cells is relatively easy, and above all very efficient (e.g. compared to extraction from plant tissues).
· Chemical analyses revealed that the strain KKP 2053p is producing mainly -Y-beta;-carotene (nearly homogenic fraction, free of its a and ¿ derivatives). The strain KKP 2054p is producing both xanthophylls (including astaxanthin, adonixanthin, adonirubin and canthaxanthin) and carotenes (including echinenone, hydroxyechinenone and -Y-beta;-carotene). The production of carotenoids is efficient and amounts to 452.5 (+/- 138) µg / 1 g dry weigh for the strain KKP 2053p and 265.4 (+/- 10) µg / 1 g dry weigh for the strain KKP 2054p.
