Una pyme española, en cooperación con una universidad local, ha desarrollado un proceso de desalinización que permite obtener agua destilada y recuperar sales secas en agua salada. La desalinización se logra gracias a mecanismos de compresión, calentamiento e inyección. Se trata de una tecnología energéticamente eficiente cuyos costes de fabricación son muy bajos en comparación con la tecnología de ósmosis inversa empleada normalmente en procesos de desalinización. La tecnología de ósmosis inversa consume mucha energía y tiene unos costes de mantenimiento elevados, además de verter grandes cantidades de salmuera al mar al final del proceso. El sistema puede alimentarse con energía renovable. La energía térmica necesaria en el proceso puede generarse mediante energía solar concentrada. La empresa busca socios con el fin de establecer acuerdos de fabricación o cooperación técnica.

This technology is very energy efficient and the maintenance costs are very low comparing with the reverse osmosis technology usually used for desalinisation. The SME is interested in a manufacturing or a technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
A Spanish SME has developed, in cooperation with a local university, a new process for water desalinisation through a system of compression, heating and injection.

Current desalinisation processes are usually based in reverse osmosis. They have high energy consumption and high cost of maintenance associated. Furthermore, big amounts of brine are discharged to the sea at the end of the process.

The new process developed by the Spanish company allows obtaining distilled water and recovering of dry salts form seawater, brackish water or residual water with lower energy consumption and lower maintenance costs than current reverse osmosis desalinisation systems.

The saline water is compressed under high pressure, then heated below its thermal limit curve and finally it is injected horizontally at high speed inside a superheated tunnel at low pressure without air injection, resulting in a separation of steam and dry salts. The dry salts fall on drawers at the bottom of the superheated tunnel. Salts can be sorted by applying an ionising field, followed by a directional electric field.

The system can be powered by renewable energy. The thermal energy required in the process can be generated by concentrated solar power.

The recovered and sorted salts can be sold and used in further industrial processes. This allows to recover part of the cost invested in the treatment and avoids the discharge of brine to the sea.

This procedure is applicable to the desalinisation of saline water and industrial wastewater. The system works effectively both for large and small amounts of water.

The Spanish company aims to industrialise and commercialise this technology in Europe and South America and is interested in a manufacturing agreement with a local industrial partner. The Spanish company would transfer technical knowledge required for the manufacturing of the equipment and the industrial partner sought would manufacture and offer further technical service, if required (maintenance and repair). The commercialisation of the euqipments will be done by the Spanish company.

The Spanish company is open as well to a technical cooperation for an adaptation of the technology to the market/partner requirements, if necessary.

Comparing with reverse osmosis, commonly used in desalinisation process, the new technology shows the following advantages:

- 80% reduction of energy consumption
- 90% reduction of the maintenance costs
- Not discharge of briner to the sea.
- Recovering of dry salts for consumption.

- Total costs of operations can be recovered in 10 years
- Modular system easily adaptable.
- Production of 400 L/minute of purified water.

They are looking for industrial engineering companies working in water and wastewater treatment with manufacturing capacities to produce the equipment required for the application of this technology. The partner sought should be able as well to provide after-sales technical assistance services (maintenance and repair). The cooperation type desired in this case will be a manufacturing agreement. The Spanish company will commercialise the equipments.

The SME is also open to a technical cooperation agreement with engineering industrial partners for technical validation tests and further development to adapt the technology to specific market/partner requirements.
