An Italian company has developed an innovative technology designed to produce clean energy exploiting slow-moving flows of water. The system self-adjusts orientation to the optimum depth for the power generation, in order to get higher annual energy production. The company is interested in joint venture agreement with a manufacturing company and/or financial agreement with companies/industry possibly located in China, South Korea, Canada and UK where ocean currents are more productive.
Description:
The technology offered consists in an ocean energy conversion system, an using two horizontal axis hydro turbine mounted on the side of a supporting submersed structure. The system is sustained by the buoyancy provided by a streamlined axial-symmetric floating body, placed at the top of the structure. It is tethered to seabed through a mooring cable. In the final arrangement a winch is also installed on board in order to control the effective depth and to allow an easy recovery at the surface for maintenance purposes. Two synchronous generators are installed on board and mounted on the turbines shafts through a gearbox. Each generator is electrically controlled by an inverter, both for grid connection purposes and in order to attain optimal working conditions at different current speed.
The power connection is provided by a power cable, passing along the mooring cable and extended up to an on-shore grid connection point.
The three bladed turbines have been developed and designed in order to reach a high efficiency in a relatively wide operating conditions range, They have been intensely tested both in wind tunnel and towing tank experimental campaigns. A diffuser is placed around each turbine and allow an enhancement of the energy conversion process by increasing the mass flowing though the turbine swept area. One of the major feature of the system is the ability to self-orient, particularly useful in reversing current regimes, such as with tidal current. During operation, the effective working depth and the system orientation vary with current stream speed and direction as a consequence of the balance among the thrust acting on the turbines, the hydrodynamic drag forces and the buoyancy force acting on the system, which behaves somewhat like a "kite".
The system can be easily towed to the installation site and thanks to the self-towing winch can be positioned at predetermined depth.
For maintenance, the system can be easily brought to the surface simply releasing the tension of the mooring line.
The company is an affirmed reality that has more than 25 years of experience in working on water flow´s exploitation during which has product and tested many scaled model of horizontal axis marine turbine.
The company is looking for investors that are interested in innovative and productive system. It is interested in Commercial agreement, Financial agreement, Joint venture agreement with manufacturing companies or investors for the construction and commercialization worldwide of its innovative renewable energy system.
