Se trata de una nueva matriz polimérica biocompatible, biodegradable, farmacéuticamente aceptable, de fácil acceso y económica. El perfil de liberación puede modificarse y optimizarse cambiando la composición de la matriz. El sistema puede aplicarse a una amplia variedad de medicamentos. Se buscan socios industriales con el fin de establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica o licencia para el desarrollo específico del producto.

The university is seeking industrial partners for technical cooperation agreements or licensing of the technology to an industrial partner for product specific development.
Description:
Prescription opioid analgesics are an important component of modern pain management. Abuse and misuse of these products, however, have created a serious and growing public health problem, particularly in the USA. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has worked to address this problem while ensuring that patients in pain have appropriate access to opioid analgesics. One potentially important step towards the goal of creating safer opioid analgesics has been the development of opioids that are formulated to deter abuse. This could be in the form of a crush resistant controlled time release system such as has been developed by this UK university. This is just one application of where this novel technology could be used but the system could be relevant to other drugs that require controlled release.
The university is seeking industrial partners for technical cooperation agreements or licensing of the technology to an industrial partner for product specific development.

· Can be manufactured into a convenient dosage form using readily scalable processing techniques such as efficient hot melt
extrusion or micro moulding processing techniques.

· The release profile can be modified and optimized by changing the composition of the matrix.

· The novel polymer matrix is prepared from biocompatible, biodegradable, GRAS (generally recognised as safe) status, pharmaceutical acceptable, readily available and inexpensive materials.

· High crush resistance (300-350Nm)

· Applicable to a wide range of medicines
