Este sistema reduce al menos un 30% de los costes, así como la duración y los inconvenientes de los tratamientos de ortodoncia actuales. El prototipo está patentado. Se buscan empresas de las industria de equipamiento médico y odontológico con el fin de licenciar esta tecnología.


Innovative system that saves costs and improves the efficiency of current orthodontic treatments and practices.
A Spanish entrepreneur, with 30 years experience as dental technician, has developed an articulated clipping system that joins the metallic bands with the correcting braces used in fixed orthodontics without the need of welding. This reduces the costs (at least 30%), the time spam and the inconveniences of current orthodontic treatments significantly. The inventor is looking for companies in the medical or dental equipment industry interested in licensing this invention.
Very few people have perfect alignment of their teeth. Nowadays a high percentage of the population in developed countries having dental malformations, such as malocclusion, or simply poor teeth alignment, demands orthodontic treatments.

Depending of the pathology, the treatment employs either removable or fixed orthodontic systems. In fixed orthodontic systems the correcting braces have to be attached to the teeth, this process is currently done through the use of a metallic band, which is a ring of metal that wraps the tooth to which the correcting brace is welded, either by silver solder or laser welding. However, the current welding technics converts the whole system (correcting brace + metallic bands) in a rigid block that causes a lot of and frequent problems:

- The welding process is usually done on a bimetallism bases, which results in weaker alloys, more fragile systems and frequent fractures at welding point.

- In case of divergent molars the current treatment requires the use of bigger-sized metallic bands, which are adjusted to the tooth by the use of filling materials, which causes gingivitis, de-cementation and, again, frequent fracture at welding point.

- Currently, to repair fractures at welding point requires uninstalling the whole system and bringing it to the workshop to weld the pieces again. Each welding makes the alloy weaker, so the probability of another fracture increases after each repair is done. In average, the repair of such orthodontic systems takes from 3 to 5 days. It has negative effects for patients, in terms of extra costs and in terms of treatment relapses and regressions, because the current orthodontic systems have to be removed from patients during the repair time, and the treatment is thus interrupted.

- The rigidity of the current systems results in a great inconvenience when placing the orthodontic systems for both, the patient and the orthodontist.

Having all these problems on mind, an entrepreneur with three decades of experience as dental technician has developed a connection device that joins the metallic band and the correcting brace of fixed orthodontic systems without the need of welding. The invention is a clipping system that allows an articulated connection between the metallic bands and the braces, which avoids welding and allows the use of the optimal metallic band size. This new system allows savings of at least 30% of the initial implant cost and nearly eliminates the risk of fracture.

The Spanish entrepreneur has developed a prototype protected under patent and is looking for an organization interested in scaling-up the invention at industrial level through a license agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
Compared to the current systems it has the following innovations:
1. It eliminates the torsional stresses arising from a rigid (welded) union, eliminating thus all the risk of fracture. More than 40% of patients treated with current welding system have fractures at welding point. Using the new system, the probability of fracture is nearly to 0%.
2. It pivots, so it allows the use of the optimal size of metallic bands, regardless the position of the molars, which avoids filling the band and therefore the associated gingivitis.
3. It eliminates rigidity, so it makes easier the insertion of the orthodontic system in patients, which makes more comfortable this medical practice for both, patient and orthodontist. Furthermore, the absence of welding s the new system provides cost saving of at least 30%.
4. It provides a better adaptation to the patient´s teeth, so the orthodontic forces are more efficiently redirected. It facilitates the medical practice and improves the treatment.
5. It allows preparing the whole orthodontic system as a detachable set of standard pieces, which makes possible to carry out adjustments, corrections and replacement in the clinic, with no need of repairs at the workshop, hence with no treatment interruptions and no delays. In the rare incident of fracture, the repairing cost estimate would be at least 70% cheaper.
6. It is compatible with all current therapeutic devices.

Advantages for patients and the clinical practice of the orthodontist:
1. The dentist at the clinic can replace the damaged elements in a few minutes during a routine check, so it saves the time and costs of repairs in orthodontic workshops.
2. It improves the efficiency of the treatment: better redirected forces, no treatment interruptions, relapses or delays.
3. It facilitates the dental practice of inserting the orthodontic systems.
4. It increases patient´s comfort, it´s easier to install and it´s easier to "wear", as it avoids gingivitis.
