The developer now offers an opportunity for a suitable partner to be involved in further development under a commercial arrangement and exclusive licensing rights.
Description:
One of the most hazardous aspects of welding operations carried out in free air is the production of dangerous and toxic fumes by the process. This is well recognised by UK and European Health & Safety legislation and the need for efficient fume extraction and the various types of fume extraction is well documented. All of the current extraction methods have one thing in common, in that they are general area and localised methods and even breathing apparatus is provided. None of these extract fumes at the direct source of fume production, at the weld torch end itself.
Researchers at a North West UK University have now developed and demonstrated a lightweight and highly-efficient fume extraction device, which is integrated into the welding torch itself. This minimises inhalation of hazardous fumes and gives optimum protection to the operator at all times. A prototype unit is available for demonstration and the project now requires a commercial partner to produce and take this development to market under an exclusive licensing arrangement.
