New innovative treatment of foot wounds
Summary:
A North West UK University has developed a new treatment method to aid the treatment of ulcerous foot wounds that has the significant advantage of speeding up the healing process and thus reducing health costs. The developer offers a licence arrangement for this technology to appropriate manufacturing partners.
Description:
Foot ulcers occur in around 5% of diabetic patients. They are often slow to resolve, but keeping the wound close to body temperature is known to promote healing. A North West University researcher has developed a thermal covering to take advantage of this beneficial effect. Early prototypes have demonstrated that the new development is promising and could help the treatment process. The project is at a stage where pre-manufacture clinical trials are required and the developer offers this opportunity to suitable manufacturers or organisations capable of funding the trials or having access to trial capability in exchange for a licence agreement.
Advantages and Innovations:
The key innovation is that the control of a wounds temperature promotes healing when kept close to body temperature.

Advantages are:
Improved patient comfort and mobility
Reduces onset of more severe problems that can lead to amputation
Significant cost savings for healthcare providers
Direct savings in staff time and replacement dressings
Indirect savings through reduced incidence of complications
Stage of Development:
Prototype available for demonstration
IPs:
Patent(s) applied for but not yet granted
CommeR Statunts Regarding IPR Status:
UK patents applied for.
