The Spanish biotechnology company is specialized in obtaining compounds from agrofood waste that are developed as functional ingredients for food, controlled release systems for the pharmaceutical industry and anti-aging ingredients for the cosmetic industry.
They revalue the by-products for their application in these fields.
The research team has the experience to address the development of new derivatives of the biopolymers obtained and the functional characterization of the different types that exist in the market. The obtention method is protected under secret know-how, thanks to the experience given througout the time to the research team into the company, and has been improved inside it.
Specifically related to the food industry, from shellfish obtain chitin and chitosan, from olive oil industry get the olive leaves and the by-products obtained from the production process of olive oil, from agroenergetic industry use the biomass and the thistle oil cake, and from the brewing industry they get the yeast.
Chitin and chitosan, featured products in the company, are two natural biopolymers obtained from the crustaceans´ shells, and are quite abundant in nature. Some of their functional characteristics are biodegradability, biocompatibility, mucoadhesion, filmgenic capacity, hemostaticity, absorption promoter, antimicrobial, anti-cholesterolemic and antioxidant. These sets of characteristics have attracted interest as a biomaterial application in fields like medicine, pharmacy and cosmetics.
They are looking for partners under technical or research cooperation agreements as they are supposed to be interested in introducing and adapting these ingredients to their current products and/or processes to improve them or change their characteristics. Their main goal at the end would be to jointly research the further development of the products as the Spanish company by itself cannot make more progresses on the products, as they are obtained in the laboratory and are not scaled-up.

One of the main advantages is the added value in all the ingredients of the company because of the reutilisation of agrofood waste: in this way is improved the production process with less waste of raw material, and the value of the production chain is increased.
Other advantages of these products are, mainly in the field of chitosan, the development of specific chitosan or chitosan-based systems with different capabilities, and that their production is priced lower than the existing ones until now.
In the field of cosmetics, another advantage of the specific chitosan obtained is that can replace hyaluronic acid, so as to reduce procurement costs.
