Una oficina francesa de transferencia de tecnología representa a un laboratorio público de la región parisina que ha desarrollado un nuevo sistema para convertir un vehículo aéreo no tripulado convencional (UAV) en un avión durante el vuelo. La arquitectura desarrollada se basa en una serie de hélices y alas y es un híbrido entre VTOL UAVs (Vertical Take-Off y Landing UAVs) y UAVs similares a aviones. El nuevo sistema consiste en hélices coplanares y un ala que gira alrededor de un eje que pertenece al plano de la hélice. Gracias a este sistema, no es necesario medir la velocidad del aire para conseguir un control eficaz. Se buscan socios interesados en establecer acuerdos de cooperación técnica o licencia.

Description:
The French TTO (Technology Transfer Office) is acting on behalf of an established public laboratory of a Paris Region university.

A French academic laboratory has developed an innovative system that allows to transform a classic unmanned-aircraft vehicle system (UAVS) into an airplane during the flight. The architecture developed is based on a set of propellers and wings. This new kind of architecture is an hybrid between VTOL UAVS (Vertical Take-Off and Landing UAVS) and airplane-like UAVS. The control of VTOL UAVS is known to be challenging when it switches between hover flight and cruising flight. Indeed, strong and rapid variations of the aerodynamic forces acting on the vehicle can lead to fast and large variations of the angle of attack.

*Innovative solution :

The new system consists of coplanar propellers and a wing that can rotate around an axis belonging to the propellers´ plane.
With this design, there is no need of air-velocity measurements to get an efficient control. Moreover, the structure has been designed to be easily scalable as wings can be replaced by different kind of wings without impacting on the rest of the structure. In that way, the UAVS can be tuned according to the conditions of flight, speeds of flight and the embarked payload.

* Market Challenges :

UAVs can be used in many inspection and surveillance tasks. One of the most promising application is the surveillance of larges structures like electric lines, dams et railroad lines. This surveillance needs high speed to cover large distance and needs the ability to hover when inspecting.
